And sometimes, unfortunately, that uncle isn't the most seasoned globe-trotter. 'Travel volume is significantly up in the summer, but especially the mix of travelers tends to be more sporadic vacation travelers who are less experienced,' said Scott Keyes, founder of the flight-shopping service Going. 'All of this sort of slows the system down so all the lines and everything take quite a bit longer.'
