'Bachelorette' alum Katie Thurston reveals memory loss amid breast cancer battle

Katie Thurston, former star of "The Bachelorette," is opening up about a challenging side effect she's experiencing amid her breast cancer treatment. In an emotional Instagram video shared Sunday, Thurston, 34, revealed she's been struggling with memory loss after completing her second month of breast cancer treatment. 'Bachelorette' alum Katie Thurston marries comedian Jeff Arcuri following breast cancer diagnosis Back in March, she shared on "Good Morning America" that she had been diagnosed with Stage 3 triple-positive ductal carcinoma, a type of cancer where tumor cells have estrogen receptors, progesterone receptors, and HER2 receptors on their surface, according to the U.S. National Cancer Institute. In her latest update, Thurston noted that her breast cancer had spread to her liver, making it Stage 4. "After finishing two months of my medication, my hair is coming out in an unnatural amount of clumps… I'm losing my memory," she said. "Going through customs and them being like, 'where are you coming from?' And I looked at them, I was like, 'I don't remember.'" Thurston, who tied the knot with comedian Jeff Arcuri in March, said the memory lapse even sparked a minor disagreement with her husband. "I think this has happened before. He's like, 'when?' I was like, 'I don't know, but I know it has,'" she recalled, adding that they have been able to find light in the situation. "We're able to laugh about it now," she continued. "Cancer is s---. Sometimes I'm like, 'Stop feeling bad for yourself.' Other times I'm like, 'You're allowed to feel bad for yourself. Cancer f------ sucks.'" Thurston also shared that her current medication, a hormonal therapy known as Zoladex, didn't effectively suppress her ovarian hormones production, which led to an unexpected period. As a result, her doctors are switching her to Lupron. "And if that doesn't work, I have to get my ovaries taken out," she said. She said she remains "optimistic about medical advancements in the future," even though she said her treatment may be required long-term, if not lifelong given that her breast cancer is now stage 4. "But anyway, it's National Cancer Survivors Day," she added. "And you know, every day that I'm alive, I'm a survivor, so go me. I guess." During the interview with "GMA" earlier this year, Thurston shared that she initially dismissed a small lump on her breast, assuming it was related to her menstrual cycle but when she eventually sought medical care, she was ultimately diagnosed with cancer. Thurston said she hopes that by sharing her story, she can inspire others to prioritize their breast health including routine cancer screening. "I think that's the biggest takeaway, is telling people like, 'Don't wait,' you know, 'Be proactive, get checked out,'" she said at the time. "You could be doing yourself a favor in the future." Scripps National Spelling Bee winner Faizan Zaki says he was 'hyperventilating' during win

The winner of the 2025 Scripps National Spelling Bee says that even after practicing spelling for nearly 40 hours a week prior to the competition, his win Thursday night was "all a blur." "I was just so excited and, like, after I spoke my word, at the end, when I spoke my word, I was kind of losing breath," Faizan Zaki said on "Good Morning America" Friday, after getting just two hours of sleep following his win. Faizan, 13, correctly spelled the word "éclaircissement" to win the bee, not even pausing to ask any questions beforehand, and collapsed to the stage after saying the final letter. "Those last couple of letters, I was gasping for air," Faizan said on "GMA." "I was like hyperventilating with excitement." The Texas teenager, who finished runner-up last year, almost saw the spelling bee victory fall from his grasp when he was just two words away from victory. On the first word, "commelina," Faizan rushed to spell the word instead of asking questions like its definition or origin, and misspelled the first two letters, calling out "K-A-M" instead of "C-O-M." The mistake put Faizan's last two competitors back in contention, before Faizan saw the victory through. 8 winners of Scripps National Spelling Bee coin term for themselves: 'octochamps' Faizan said he "immediately recognized" the final word, "éclaircissement" -- a noun meaning enlightenment -- which gave him the confidence to quickly and correctly spell the word. Despite his spelling prowess, Faizan moved through the spelling bee with the casualness of a typical teenager, wearing a hoodie and even calling the judges "bro." "I mean, yeah, I've been in this for seven years so at this point I'm not really that nervous," Faizan said of his seemingly relaxed approach to the competition. "I'm definitely confident but not overconfident. I also have that casual style." Leading up to the competition, Faizan said he spent five to six hours daily on weekdays and seven to eight hours daily on weekends scanning a dictionary for words he didn't recognize and writing them down. Noting the routine is more enjoyment for him than practice, Faizan admitted he is relieved the spelling bee is over. Texas teen says winning Scripps National Spelling Bee is a 'dream come true' He said he may next move his attention to a new competition focus, math. "I really enjoy math so maybe I can try getting into the International [Mathematical] Olympiad," Fazian said, referring to the annual global math competition for high school students. Kim Kardashian trial: 8 found guilty in 2016 jewelry heist

Nearly one decade after Kim Kardashian survived a robbery in her Paris hotel room, eight defendants were found guilty of crimes linked to the robbery. A panel of three judges and six jurors delivered the verdict in a Paris courtroom Friday, finding eight of the 10 defendants in the case guilty, while acquitting two others. The defendants have 10 days to appeal the ruling. Nine men and one woman were accused in connection with the robbery. Five masked men posing as police officers allegedly stormed into Kardashian's hotel suite and made off with valuables worth at least $6 million, including a diamond engagement ring given to Kardashian by her then-husband Kanye West. That ring alone was said to be worth about $4 million. Kardashian traveled to Paris to testify during the trial, telling the courtroom she thought was "going to die" during the robbery. "I absolutely thought that I was going to die," the reality TV star and entrepreneur said in her May 13 testimony, adding, "I kept telling them that I have babies, and that I needed to go home to my babies." In her testimony, Kardashian, a mom of four, said she was packing at about 3 a.m. during Paris fashion week in 2016 when "two men came into my room -- they were dressed as police officers." The men were leading the hotel's concierge, who was handcuffed, she told the court. Kim Kardashian graduates from law study program after 6 years Kardashian told the judge she was tied up, gagged and thrown into a bathroom. She testified that while she was still tied up in the bathroom, she managed to scoot over to the sink and get her hands free. With her feet still tied, she said she hopped downstairs, where her friend, Simone Harouche, helped untie her. French authorities announced the arrests of the suspects in the robbery in January 2017. The suspects have collectively been referred to as the "grandpa robber" -- or "papys braqueurs" -- because many of them are over the age of 60. 'I was going to die,' Kardashian recalls thinking during 2016 jewelry heist There were initially 12 defendants in this case, one of whom has since died. Another person cannot be tried due to their medical condition, according to French authorities. ABC News' Joe Simonetti, Will Gretsky, Aicha El Hammar Castano, Kevin Shalvey, Bill Hutchinson and Hugo Leenhardt contributed to this report.
