Asking Eric: Ill-mannered member's daughter ruins social group
Dear Eric: I'm part of a group that meets up on a regular basis to engage in a hobby. These gatherings have been a great refuge for me. We have enjoyable, interesting conversations and a great rapport. One friend, 'Rose,' has started including her daughter 'Tracy' in some of these gatherings, which has changed the group dynamic and frankly, made things not fun anymore.

The new TV series Gen X should watch for relationship advice
Friendship groups, especially the ones you're excluded from, can be annoying for many reasons. For outsiders they can feel like the modern social equivalent of the Boer laager, that battlefield defensive encampment formed by a circle of wagons. Inside, one always suspects, reside in-jokes, gossip and bitching about, well, you and everyone else who has not been chosen. But there is a new TV programme, The Four Seasons on Netflix, that warmly invites us into one tight-knit 'friend group', as the Americans call it, and demonstrates in fantastic, authentic detail that the group dynamic critically depends on the couple relationships that exist within it. It's also so fabulously relatable for us Gen Xers that it unsurprisingly topped the Netflix charts during its debut weekend.
