Explore Peru with the Cleo Redd Fisher Museum this August
The Cleo Redd Fisher Museum is offering a guided tour through Peru from Aug. 5 to 11. Participants will explore Lima, Cusco, the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu.
The tour is part of the museum's effort to connect people with history through real-world experiences, according to an announcement.
'Travel isn't just about sightseeing − it's about understanding the world and our place in it,' said Kenny Libben, museum curator. 'These tours help bring history to life in a way no exhibit ever could.'
The itinerary includes cultural, historical and scenic highlights. Travelers will start in the capital city of Lima before heading to the Andes to explore Cusco and the Sacred Valley.
Highlights include visits to the market and ruins of Pisac, the fortress of Ollantaytambo and the citadel of Machu Picchu. The tour also features a visit to Moray, known for its circular Inca agricultural terraces, and Maras, home to thousands of salt pans still harvested by hand today.
The tour will move at a moderate pace, but includes high-altitude sites, stairs and uneven terrain. A fair level of physical fitness is recommended.
The announcement comes as the Peruvian government considers limiting or closing access to Machu Picchu to protect the site from overuse and long-term damage.
'If you've ever dreamed of seeing Machu Picchu in person, this may be one of the last chances to do so,' Libben said.
The tour includes six nights' accommodations, guided tours, most meals, domestic flights, private transportation and round-trip train tickets to Machu Picchu. The full cost is $2,450 per person, based on double occupancy, with a limited number of single room upgrades available for an additional fee.
International flights are not included, allowing travelers to choose flights that best fit their schedule, budget and comfort level.
The museum notes that its past international trips have sold out quickly, and interested travelers are encouraged to act soon.
