MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN) — In Murfreesboro, high winds sent several trees crashing into houses throughout the city. Her mom took it as a sign and immediately went into a closet. Then, they heard a boom; a tree had fallen into their family home. 'I just thank God, really,' Smotherman told News 2. 'I thank God that everybody is okay and nobody got hurt and that we were still able to get into the house and get the dog. Strong winds in England leave a home nearly split into two, one woman grateful to be alive
ENGLAND, Ark. – One homeowner in England spent her day watching limbs and branches be removed from inside her home, after a tree came crashing down due to strong winds on Sunday, May 11. A little further down East Haywood Street, her neighbor Mallory Bynum recounted the moment she saw the tree come crashing down. 'Like slow motion, it just cracked really loud. Like it sounded like a gunshot. And then it fell, and I heard it boom into the house. And then all the leaves shook at once,' Bynum said. GALLERY: Trees down, damage left as storms move through Arkansas on Easter Sunday Bynum said it was around 7 in the morning when high winds began rattling her windows and rain began beating down on the roof. 'It was so strong, it was whistling around the house,' Bynum said. 'It was just really fast. Like a super-fast gust, and then it died down fast. And then it poured rain.' Chainsaws and the hum of a crane then filled the neighborhood as a crew cuts down and cleans up what they can of the damage left behind. Arkansas Storm Team Forecast: Mother's Day Showers? The homeowner's family and neighbors are finding relief in knowing this is the worst of it as they work out the details of insurance. 'We were glad to lay eyes on her and know that she was okay,' Bynum said. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Strong winds to start week
A storm system scrapes across New Mexico today and tomorrow. This has brought high winds back this afternoon and will do so once again tomorrow, especially for areas along and south of I-40. Areas of blowing dust are likely in southern New Mexico. A high fire danger will also develop with these high winds and dry conditions. Meanwhile, isolated showers and storms will move through northwestern and northern New Mexico. Some snow will be possible across mountain peaks as well with an isolated shower possible as far south as Santa Fe and Albuquerque Monday afternoon. Winds will quickly die down Monday night with calmer conditions by the middle of next week. An area of high pressure will develop over New Mexico, bringing in calmer, but more dry weather. Temperatures will also be climbing. Some of the warmest weather s Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
