Children's play area at Lake District tourist attraction could be expanded
AN existing children's play area could be extended near Keswick if the plans are approved by the Lake District National Park Authority.
Christian Outdoor Pursuits Trust CIO has applied to make the changes to the site at Bassenfell Manor, Bassenthwaite, which is near to a junction on the A591 at Kilnhill.
The full planning application is currently being considered after being submitted to the authority on Friday, May 9.
According to the application form the site covers a total area of 160 square metres and the applicant said: 'We are looking to extend an existing children's play area already in place on our property.
'The intention of this development is to maintain an equivalent capacity of play equipment provision for resident guests while allowing us to decommission a number of deteriorating elements situated in now non-ideal locations.'
The form adds that the expansion area is to include the following:
Seven new elements supplied and installed by Kompan;
An existing tube slide to be maintained in situ and incorporated into the new area;
A triple segment climbing board element, approximately 3m long and 2m high, to be reinstalled in the new area.
According to the form the work to make the changes is yet to start.
The applicant said: 'The main building and grounds consists of a 19-bedroom former manor house being run as a holiday residential and outdoor activity venue.
'The centre caters to a mixture of independent self-managed groups, programmed school residentials and led holidays for adults throughout the year.
'The surrounding grounds include various items of play and outdoor activity equipment for use independently or as part of instructed activities. The proposed installation site is a small sloping grassed lawn within the main property grounds.'
