He also starred as a police officer in 'iNumber Number' alongside S'dumo Mtshali, cementing his status as a household name. His recent role as Thuso 'Cobra' Mokoena in 'Cobrizi', a spin-off from the award-winning series 'The River', also showcased his versatility as an actor. Chweneyagae died on Tuesday, May 27, at the age of 40 due to natural causes. According to the family spokesperson, Mzwakhe Sigudla, Chweneyagae's death was due to complications related to breathing. Despite the efforts of paramedics who were called to his residence, the actor did not make it and succumbed to death, with his passing being confirmed by his talent management, Moonyeenn Lee & Associates (MLA). Additionally, the family spokesperson, Mzwakhe Sigudla, spoke to the media, sharing funeral and memorial service details outside Chweneyagae's home in Pretoria. He added that there will be two memorial services held next week to celebrate the talented actor's life. The first memorial service will take place in Mahikeng on Tuesday, June 3, followed by a second one in Pretoria on Thursday, June 5. The family spokesperson also shared that Chweneyagae's funeral will be on Saturday, June 7, with the venue still to be confirmed.

DStv, the broadcaster which was home to late actor Presley Chweneyagae in recent years, has paid tribute to the beloved actor. 'He was every mother's son, every girl's funny lover, and everyone's best friend,' said CEO of General Entertainment at MultiChoice, Nomsa Philiso. Chweneyagae passed away on Tuesday morning at the age of 40. His talent agency and management team at Moonyeenn Lee Associates (MLA) confirmed his death. 'It is with profound sadness that we confirm the untimely passing of one of South Africa's most gifted and beloved actors, Presley Chweneyagae,' the statement read. The cause of death is still unknown to the public. 'His characters felt like family,' she shared. His work brought heart and humanity to every role.' Chweneyagae's performances on The River made him more endearing to Mzansi as the hilarious older brother with an English twang. 'His legacy lives on in the stories he helped bring to life. He was part of some of DStv's most loved productions, and his performances will continue to resonate. We will miss him dearly,' Philiso said. The tribute includes all six seasons of The River, the first season of the drama series iNumber Number and the feature film of the same name, which was released in 2014. Co-creator and executive producer of The River and Cobrizi, Phathutshedzo Makwarela of Tshedza Pictures, said Chweneyagae epitomised God-given talent. 'Presley was one of a generation. He was the epitome of God given talent. Tshedza Pictures is blessed to have worked with him for close to nine years on The River and its spin-off Cobrizi. Today, the world is a much sadder place today by the loss of this talent.' Tsotsi co-star Terry Pheto said she was shocked by Chweneyagae's passing. 'I'm shocked and saddened by the news of Presley's sudden passing. My heart goes out to his family and the rest of our friends and colleagues in the film industry. The family of actor Presley Chweneyagae has come out to dispel social media commentary about the cause of death, after he unexpectedly passed on Tuesday, 27 May. The Tsotsi star was just 40 years old. He leaves behind a wife and children. Speaking to the media, the family of Presley Chweneyagae shut down wild claims about his cause of death. SABC reporter Chriselda Lewis posted on X of their claims: 'He passed away due to natural causes. No foul play suspected. He struggled to breathe. Paramedics were called, but it was too late'. This comes after Sunday World broke news of Presley Chweneyagae's death, which they claimed followed a 'brief illness'. The actor played the Oscar-winning role of Tsotsi in the 2005 film, which shot him into superstardom at the age of 25. He has also starred in other films and notable TV roles, such as iNumber Number, Zama Zama, The River, and most recently, Cobrizi. According to a family spokesperson, Presley Chweneyagae's funeral service will take place on Saturday, 7 June. Two memorial services will take place, the first on 3 June in Mahikeng and the second on 5 June in Pretoria. Details will be shared in due time.
