Bluetooth troubles with iPhone 16e? You aren't alone, but a fix might be coming

If your Apple iPhone 16e struggles to maintain a connection to Bluetooth devices, specifically speakers and headphones, you aren't alone. Since the launch iOS 18.3.2, users have taken to social media and Reddit to seek answers. The current situation is similar to the one in 2018 with the iPhone XS, but it appears to be more widespread. Users report audio stutters over Bluetooth. Music will pause for a split-second or two a few times per song. The problem is that it doesn't seem to be device-specific; the issues persist even after returning the iPhone 16e and getting another. Different fixes have been proposed, with many users narrowing the cause down to the use of multiple Bluetooth devices. One reported that disabling their Oura Ring fixed the issue, while another said that it required asking the iPhone to 'Forget this device' before the audio bug stopped. However, some iPhone 16e users say the iOS 18.4 beta corrected the problem, implying that it's root cause lies somewhere in the device software. If this is true, then anyone currently dealing with the problem only needs to wait until iOS 18.4 receives its official launch in April. For now, anyone experiencing Bluetooth connectivity issues is advised to report the problem to Apple Support. If you want to listen to music without interruption, it's suggested that you disable any unnecessary Bluetooth devices. That's the only solution that seems to work with any reliability so far. You could also opt-in to the iOS 18.4 beta, but as with any beta test, there's a chance it could introduce other related or unrelated issues. Regardless, we don't recommend a factory reset. Other iPhone 16e users have tried that to no avail, and it isn't worth the trouble with no guarantee of success.

Apple's forcing your iPhone to turn Apple Intelligence on again

If you had previously disabled Apple Intelligence, you might want to double-check your settings. The latest iOS update looks to have re-enabled the service for many users, just like previous updates — a bug that has bothered Apple users since it began. Disabling Apple Intelligence can clear up as much as 7GB of data on your iPhone, and for users with less storage capacity, that's nothing to scoff at. Suddenly losing that much storage to an optional feature is an annoyance, but you can disable it again. You just have to repeat the process in your settings. The update to iOS 18.3.2 was a necessity, as it contained a security fix that left your phone vulnerable to intrusion. If you haven't updated yet, it's a good idea to do so as soon as possible. Just remember to disable Apple Intelligence after you're done. It's as simple as going into Settings > Apple Intelligence and flipping the toggle. The update also applies to iPads — as does the potential to save space — so if your iPad is compatible with Apple Intelligence, you'll need to adjust your settings there as well. With any luck, Apple will change its update strategy so your device retains the same settings as before the update. It's also possible that Apple Intelligence has to be reenabled for the update to be properly applied, but again, it seems a relatively trivial matter for the update to remove it after the necessary changes had been made. The update itself is small in size — barely over 700MB — so it won't demand much bandwidth.

Download iOS 18.3.2 Right Now to Patch This Security Issue

Apple is preparing to release iOS 18.4 to all users in April, but before that the tech giant is telling everyone to download iOS 18.3.2 now. The company released iOS 18.3.2 on Tuesday and said it fixes a streaming playback bug, but more importantly it patches a security issue that might have been actively exploited in an "extremely sophisticated attack." You can download the update by going to Settings > General > Software Update, tapping Update Now and following the prompts on your screen. Read more: An Expert's Guide to iOS 18 According to Apple's release notes, iOS 18.3.2 patches a security issue in WebKit, the company's in-house-developed internet browser engine used in Safari. Apple wrote that maliciously crafted content could break out of the Web Content sandbox. A sandbox is an isolated virtual environment where programs, code and other files can be run and tested to see how they behave. According to the cybersecurity company Proofpoint, "Browsers have their own sandboxes to separate malicious applications that run on the web from accessing local machine resources." It provides an extra security layer on your device, and if web content can break out of the sandbox, that content could access your device's data. Apple said this issue might have been used against specific individuals running a version of iOS prior to iOS 17.2, and that the latest update is a "supplementary fix." While you might not have iOS 17.2 or be the intended target, you should still download the update now to ensure you have the most protection available for you and your data. While it's not unusual for Apple to release security updates like this between other, more feature-heavy updates, it is unusual for the company to release two security updates about a month apart. Apple released iOS 18.3.1 on Feb. 10, and that update also patched a security issue that the company said might have been actively exploited and used against targeted individuals. The main difference between these two updates is iOS 18.3.1 patched a flaw that could have allowed someone to physically connect to your iPhone and access your data. So a person would have to be near you to exploit that vulnerability before the update. But the latest update patches a flaw that could be exploited over the internet, potentially from thousands of miles away. Downloading iOS 18.3.2 should protect you from the this latest threat.
