WhatsApp finally has an iPad app

WhatsApp has finally received its very own iPad app. Seriously, this only went live today. Needless to say, a lot of people have been waiting for a very long time for this to happen, and now it has. WhatsApp's official X account actually teased the launch yesterday with a cryptic post, and today it's made it official. You can now grab the WhatsApp app for iPad from the App Store of course. The app lets you make video and audio calls with up to 32 people, share your screen, and use both front and back cameras. It also integrates with the iPadOS Stage Manager multitasking system, as well as with Split View and Slide Over - so you can send messages while doing other stuff on your iPad. Of course, it works with the Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil too. WhatsApp says everything will always be in sync across your iPhone, iPad, Mac, and other devices while your messages, calls, and media will be end-to-end encrypted. And with chat lock, you can have private conversations in confidence even if you share your iPad with others. Source

After 15 years, WhatsApp is finally ready for the iPad

Meta now has a dedicated iPad app for WhatsApp, more than 15 years after the messaging service and the first iPad launched (2009 and 2010, respectively). Available to download today via the App Store, WhatsApp for iPad supports many of the same features as its iPhone counterpart, allowing users to join audio and video calls with up to 32 people, use both the rear and front device cameras, and share their screen with other call participants. The long-awaited WhatsApp for iPad works with iPadOS features like Stage Manager, Split View, and Slide Over, enabling it to run alongside other applications. That means users can view their messages in a split-screen view while browsing the web or watching videos, making the larger screen more practical for multitasking while using the app, compared to constantly switching away from WhatsApp on smaller mobile devices. If you wanted to use WhatsApp on a larger screen before the iPad app, you had to either run the web version in your iPad's browser or use the desktop apps for Mac or PC. The WhatsApp account on X teased on Monday that the app was coming via a not-so-subtle eyes emoji, but there was no indication that it would drop this soon. Meta is also rumored to be developing an Instagram app for iPad that's optimized for the larger display, but the company hasn't dropped any hints about that in the way it did for WhatsApp.

Meta just teased a long-awaited WhatsApp upgrade for Apple fans

WhatsApp is teasing an iPad app, which may come soon after a long period of waiting. It seems Meta is paying attention to the iPad crowd, and recently, the company (or more the WhatsApp official X account) teased an iPad app may finally be in the works. The WhatsApp version for iPad has been long awaited, even rumored for multiple years with no official confirmation for its existence, but now, things are finally starting to look brighter for iPad users. The teaser is simple: an emoji with wide eyes in an answer to a post saying WhatsApp should release an iPad app. For two years, the iPad-focused version of WhatsApp has been available for beta testing via TestFlight. Now, after such a long wait, we may be nearing the official release. The X post. | Screenshot by PhoneArena The situation with an Instagram app for iPad (another long-awaited and highly-requested thing) is less optimistic, though. We've been hearing rumors about it for a while, but initially, Meta had said it wouldn't be making an Instagram app for iPads. Only recently did rumors about the company changing its mind started to appear. The WhatsApp for iPad app will be offered alongside the app for iPhone and Mac. WhatsApp is one of the most popular chat services, so it's about time Meta is making it easy for people with iPads to use it. The thing is, right now people cannot install WhatsApp on an iPad via the App Store. You can use the chat service on the web, but it's not a native app with all its advantages. As for Instagram, you can download and install it on an iPad, but it's not optimized for the bigger screen and is frankly an annoying thing to use. Facebook does have an iPad app, while Meta's newest social media platform, Threads, is only currently available as an iPhone app. Although I'm personally thrilled to hear that an iPad-focused WhatsApp version is coming, I can't help but think that prioritizing an Instagram app for iPad was the better move. WhatsApp is primarily for chatting, and this is done more conveniently on an iPhone anyway, while Instagram – well this would have been a joy to use on an iPad. Hopefully, Meta will accelerate the Instagram app development too. As for when the WhatsApp iPad app will become available, the company doesn't say just yet. Hopefully, soon.

Google improves the Gemini experience on the iPad with a native app

Edgar Cervantes / Android Authority TL;DR Google just launched a standalone iPad app for Gemini that brings a full-screen experience. There was a Google Gemini app for iOS that launched in November 2024, but it was only designed for the iPhone and launched in letterboxed mode on iPad. The Gemini iPad app has the same UI as the Gemini app on Android tablets and on the web. It feels like Google's Gemini is putting in a lot of work these days, and it's not just on Android or the web either. Google launched a standalone Gemini app on iOS last November, which was recently updated to include lock screen widgets for iPhone users. Now, Google has given iPad users another nice surprise. Google has updated the Gemini iOS app to include an optimized, full-screen iPad version. Previously, the Gemini app could technically work on an iPad, but since it was designed for the iPhone, it would appear in letterboxed mode with blank spaces around it. It also used the smaller iPhone keyboard, leading to a subpar experience. The updated Gemini iOS app (version 1.2025.1770102) now makes use of the iPad's full screen, so it spans the entire width of the display in both portrait and landscape orientation. If you've used Gemini on an Android tablet or on the web, it's basically the same interface. When using the Gemini iPad app, you get a minimalist home view. Thanks to more screen space, reading your chats is nicer since it's less cramped. And since it's now a native iPad app, you can use Gemini in Split View multitasking for maximum efficiency and productivity. While native iPad support is the biggest addition to this update, there are some smaller changes, too, including some UI improvements and bug fixes. Google gave iOS users the capability to add Gemini to the home screen as a widget, similar to the Android version, for extra convenience. Gemini can also now connect to your Google Photos library. Moreover, Google is expanding its Gemini Audio Overviews to over 45 languages after originally making its debut in English in March. Audio Overviews is a Gemini tool that can generate an audio podcast with virtual hosts discussing documents and files that you upload, as well as Deep Research reports. Got a tip? Talk to us!
