EU Says Alibaba's AliExpress May Have Broken Online Rules
The European Union's tech enforcer accepted commitments from Alibaba Group 9988 -2.26%decrease; red down pointing triangle-owned AliExpress to crack down on sales of illegal products, but said the e-commerce company may have underestimated the risks its platform poses and failed to properly penalize traders posting illegal content. The European Commission said on Wednesday that AliExpress has offered to make changes to a number of aspects of its popular e-commerce platform to address concerns including around how it monitors for illegal products, its internal complaints system, its advertising transparency and the traceability of traders on its services.

The commission said it had made binding a series of "wide-ranging commitments" that address concerns related to the platform's systems to monitor and detect illegal products, such as medicines, food supplements, and adult material.
