Authorities believe person died after ingesting substance at traffic stop in Marinette County
A driver who was pulled over in Marinette County is believed to have ingested a substance prior to dying at an area hospital, authorities say.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating the in-custody death.
The Marinette County Sheriff's Office said the incident took place June 25 at about midnight near the intersection of County Road B and Poplar Ridge Lane in the town of Grover.
"Upon contacting the occupants of the vehicle, the deputy observed a subject in the driver's seat who appeared to be ingesting a substance," the sheriff's office said in a statement.
The person, who has not been identified, was taken into custody and then became unresponsive shortly thereafter. Emergency medical services attempted life-saving measures and the person was transported to hospital, where they died, according to the sheriff's office.
No other information was immediately available.
