Frankie Dettori issues huge career update amid Royal Ascot rumours after 'embarrassing' bankruptcy downfall
FRANKIE DETTORI has issued a huge career update amid rumours he could make a spectacular British return at Royal Ascot. The world's most famous jockey has continued riding in the States since 1 Frankie Dettori blew a kiss to the camera as he confirmed his riding arrangements for the summer amid rumours of a Royal Ascot return Dettori c He didn't get his dream of a Kentucky Derby winner - the main reason he moved to the States. And rumours had been rife he could be the man to step in for Kieran Shoemark after he lost his job as No1 rider for father-son training duo John and Thady Gosden. Dettori was the main for John Gosden during his final years riding in Britain. They enjoyed huge success with the likes of Stradivarius and 'mare in a million' Enable. Punters thought Dettori could be the man to steer the likes of Field Of Gold to Royal Ascot success. Especially after Shoemark lost his role on the back of his runner-up finish on the grey in the 2000 Guineas. But Dettori, 54, appeared to confirm his riding plans for the summer in a video posted from the racecourse. Most read in Horse Racing In the video captioned 'A big kiss from @ChurchillDowns', he said: "If you're wondering, I'm still at Churchill Downs. "I'm planning to stay here for the rest of the spring and I'll be spending the summer in Saratoga. "Kiss from Churchill Downs." A lot can change in the month between now and Royal Ascot. And American trainers are always quick to snap up Dettori's services at the famous Berkshire track - especially after he became a global star with his Magnificent Seven. But Dettori's latest words appear to confirm he will definitely be staying in the US rather than jetting back to ride at Flat racing's biggest meeting. More to follow. Are politicians turning to AI?
Clive Brooke, a Labour peer, wrote to the government earlier this month to ask 'whether artificial intelligence is used to reply to written parliamentary questions and, if so, what is the extent of this'. Have government ministers been using AI to answer parliamentary questions from MPs and peers? It's a question one member of the House of Lords has posed – and the answer's still not entirely clear. On Tuesday, he received a response from Angela Smith, the leader of the House of Lords. She wrote to Lord Brooke: 'All written parliamentary questions are considered on a case by case basis. The Government does not have a specific policy on the use of AI for responding to written parliamentary questions, however staff do have access to AI software tools to support the drafting process. 'All responses are reviewed by policy officials to ensure accuracy and consistency with government policy, and parliamentary questions are signed off by Ministers.' Which not only doesn't really settle the question – but the answer itself sounds exactly like it has been written by AI. Are our robot overlords already in charge? If so, Rats in a Sack for one welcomes them.

Is Brexit botcher David Frost really Britain's 13th most popular public figure?
He is, according to pollsters YouGov, who have published their rankings of famous faces' popularity among the public for the first quarter of 2025. Frost, in 13th, is ranked a place below Zara Tindall but above the likes of Queen Camilla, Bill Clinton and Angela Merkel. Here's a question Rats in a Sack never thought it would have to conjure with: is David 'Frosty' Frost, the Conservative peer who made a hash of negotiating Boris Johnson's Brexit deal and has spent the years since blaming everybody else, really Britain's 13th most popular public figure? It seems decidedly odd given that the former whisky-peddler who spent 10 months in Boris Johnson's cabinet is hardly a name likely to trouble the bookers of I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! YouGov's rankings get even weirder further down the list where Britain's 21st most popular public figure, nestling one below Clinton but one ahead of Johnson, is… Laura Trott, the shadow education secretary. The bizarre rankings means that, according to the pollster, Frost is Britain's most popular politician and Trott, despite not even being a household name in her own household, is the second most popular Conservative and third most popular politician overall, below Frost and Nigel Farage. Might it possibly be that… both politicians share their name with a public figure both more well-known and loved? Frost shares his name with the legendary TV host and journalist who passed away in 2013, while Laura Trott is the maiden name under which cyclist Dame Laura Kenny won the bulk of her Olympic medals, making her the most successful British female athlete in Olympic history. It seems more likely than the fact that the British public have a secret love affair with a crackpot Tory peer and a shadow cabinet minister few could pick out of a police line-up. Which is it, YouGov?

And the most popular guest on GB News is…
Lloyd Russell-Moyle, who represented Brighton Kemptown from 2017 until last year, has been the star guest on the hard right channel's weekday evening shows an astounding 23 times since the start of the year, according to analysis by Rats in a Sack. Who has been the most-often booked interviewee on GB News's primetime chat shows so far this year? The answer is… a former Labour MP you've almost certainly never heard of. Russell-Moyle was ineligible to stand for Labour at the last general election after being suspended from the party over a claim about his behaviour. The complainant later withdrew the allegation. Since the start of this year the ex-MP has been the guest of Jacob Rees-Mogg 12 times, Nigel Farage 10 times and has once been on the generic GB News Tonight. Since January, he has been one of three Labourites who top the chart of GB News's guests on its most popular primetime shows. Second, with 18 appearances, is Matthew Laza, introduced as a 'former Labour advisor', having spent 10 months as the party's head of broadcasting a decade ago. He has been interviewed on Patrick Christys' show 12 times this year, Michelle Dewberry's four times and Matthew Goodwin's twice. Unlike Russell-Moyle, Laza remains broadly supportive of Keir Starmer's agenda – unlike the guest booked third most often, Barry Gardiner, a left wing MP who served in Jeremy Corbyn's shadow cabinet and who has appeared 14 times this year. Fourth most seen is Jo Phillips, billed as a 'former Lib Dem advisor', although Ed Davey's press team can be forgiven for not being familiar with her as she served under the leadership of Paddy Ashdown, who stepped down a full 26 years ago and died in 2018. Further analysis throws up some unsurprising conflicts of interest. Star presenter and Reform leader Nigel Farage's most common interviewee, after Russell-Moyle and Phillips, is Gawain Towler, a now-lobbyist who spent much of the last two decades as Farage's spin doctor before getting the heave-ho last year as his boss sought to 'professionalise' his party. Farage has also interviewed his own deputy, Richard Tice, and fellow GB News presenter Jacob Rees-Mogg, which must have been journalistic tour de forces on a par with John Freeman's Face To Face. Rees-Mogg, meanwhile, has interviewed no fewer than six of his former colleagues on the Conservative benches in the Commons: Suella Braverman, John Redwood (six times), Andrew Griffith, Tom Pursglove, Mark Francois and Douglas Carswell, as well as Arlene Foster, former leader of the Tories' sister party the DUP and now, er, a presenter on GB News. However, there has been a notable absence from the channel's flagship weekday evening talk shows, including Dewbs and Co, Farage, Matthew Goodwin, Patrick Christys Tonight, Jacob Rees-Mogg, Lee Anderson's Real World. None of those shows has featured a representative of the UK government or single senior Liberal Democrat, Green, SNP or Plaid Cymru figure. Maybe there's no room in the car park with so many spaces reserved for their regulars! GB News's most common guests on their evening chat shows this year so far: 1 Lloyd Russell-Moyle, former Labour MP, 23 appearances 2 Matthew Laza, former Labour head of broadcast, 18 3 Barry Gardiner, Corbynite Labour MP, 14 4= Jo Phillips, former Lib Dem spinner, 13 4= Gawain Towler, Nigel Farage's former spin doctor, 13 6 Shaun Bailey, Tory peer, former candidate for Mayor of London, 12 7 Rupert Lowe, former Reform MP, now independent, 12 8= Jake Berry, Tory Party chair for all 49 days of Liz Truss's premiership, 10 8= Kwasi Kwarteng, chancellor for 38 days of Liz Truss's premiership, 10 8= John Redwood, former Wales secretary, 10 8= Ann Widdecombe, Reform's immigration spokesperson, 10
