D.C.'s jail is a disgrace. Still.
Here is a sample of some of the most egregious recent revelations about the conditions in the D.C. city jail:
And here's the kicker: The D.C. auditor's report, written jointly by the Council for Court Excellence, that contains these findings is far from the first time city officials have been warned that the building is unsuitable to house inmates. For more than a decade, advocates have been demanding that the city address the worsening conditions by building a new jail — yet, year after year, the city fails.
