Man nabbed for peeping inside women's toilet at petrol station
SEBERANG JAYA: A man has been arrested following the circulation of a viral video showing him allegedly entering and peeping into a women's toilet at a petrol station in Seberang Jaya here.
Police came across a 27-second video of the alleged incident, uploaded to the social media platform X by user @kamaghul_deghaman, today.
Seberang Prai Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Helmi Aris said checks showed the incident occurred about 6.21am on May 5.
"We have received a report regarding the incident and have since opened an investigation paper under Section 509 of the Penal Code and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.
"The suspect has been arrested, and a remand application would be filed at the Bukit Mertajam magistrate's court tomorrow," he said in a statement.
Section 509 of the Penal Code addresses the crime of insulting the modesty of any person.
Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 deals with using indecent, threatening, abusive, or insulting words or behavior that is likely to cause a breach of peace.
This includes situations where there is an intent to provoke such a breach, or where a breach is likely to occur.
Helmi urged the public to refrain from spreading speculation that could disrupt public order.
