18 injured in knife attack by woman at Hamburg train station

ALBAWABA - According to the German tabloid Bild, 18 people were hurt in a knife assault at a Hamburg train station on Friday night, with many of them in severe condition. Six people suffered significant injuries, and four are in critical condition, according to authorities. Moderate to light wounds were treated for the remaining patients. Police arrested the suspect, a 39-year-old woman, at the site without encountering any opposition. The wounded were taken to local hospitals by emergency personnel while the station was partly closed up. The motivation for the assault is yet unknown, but current investigations are looking into the potential of mental health difficulties, police stated in an official statement. As of right now, there is no evidence to support a political or radical motive. Multiple ambulances were seen on the scene, and police were seen cordoning off portions of the station. In a direct phone conversation with the Mayor of Hamburg, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz voiced his alarm, calling the event "shocking" in a post on X (previously Twitter). The assault raises questions about public safety at congested train hubs as it follows a series of similar violent episodes that have happened in Germany in recent months.
