She also spent seven years at the Christian Science Monitor, where she was first West Coast correspondent and then a political reporter. She later joined the Monitor's then-growing audio team. In that role, she hosted and produced narrative podcasts, including one about language and identity, which was nominated for an Online Journalism Award. Jess is originally from Manila. She's currently based in Washington, D.C.
