McDonald's makes major to change to nearly all US stores just in time for the summer
Night owls, rejoice: McDonald's is staying open later. Just in time for Memorial Day weekend, the fast-food giant is extending hours at select locations. Many will now open until midnight or later — and some going 24/7. While a 'vast majority' of restaurants will adopt the new hours, locations in places like airports and malls will keep their current schedule. To celebrate, McDonald's street teams will be out Friday in Los Angeles, New York, and Detroit, handing out free McCrispy Strips, merch, and gift cards. Fans who don't score free food or merchandise can enter for the chance to win a virtual gift card for free McCrispy Strips tomorrow. All they'll need to do is post an Instagram Story with #DipforMcCrispyStripsGiveaway and tag @GoFooji. These epic-filled specials come after McDonald's announced its plans to hire 375,000 employees this summer. A 'vast majority' of McDonald's restaurants are permanently changing its hours this weekend One of the nation's largest employers, McDonald's is aiming to open 900 new restaurants by 2027. It's already operating over 43,000 worldwide, with over 13,000 in the US alone. Customers have been talking about McDonald's quite a bit already this year for its new products inside and outside the US. However, social media exploded once the fast food chain brought back its fan-favorite Squishmallows toys. They also went crazy over the Happy Meals promoting 'A Minecraft Movie,' which included a new Nether Flame Sauce. McDonald's has also kept busy by continuing to promote its McValue platform and fan-favorite deals like the $5 Meal Deal. The promotions have slowly become part of McDonald's plan to recover from its 3.6 percent sales dive, its biggest US drop since the pandemic. 'We believe McDonald's can weather these difficult conditions better than most. However, we're not immune to the volatility in the industry or the pressures that our consumers are facing,' said McDonald's CEO Chris Kempczinski. The new hours come after announcing its plans to hire 375,000 employees this summer McDonald's is not the only fast food chain to be offering specials during challenging times. Burger King is giving its Royal Perks members the chance to score free burgers through purchases starting at $1. The deal is leading up to National Hamburger Day this Wednesday. Despite the special, Burger King was hit by a sales decline in North America shortly after franchisee Consolidated Burger Holdings filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Chipotle, America's third largest fast food giant, is preparing to open more restaurants, including its first location in Mexico. However, its sales recently fell by 0.4 percent this quarter, the chain's first sales slump since 2020. Subway brought back its $6.99 for any footlong deal until May 31, but the only thing customers seem to be talking about is the chain's massive US closures. Other restaurants that have deals outshined by closures and declining sales include Hardee's and Jack in the Box.
