Gretchen Wilson reveals she was in a wheelchair for 6 MONTHS after horrific injury at her wedding

Gretchen Wilson revealed she had an accident at a wedding that left her leg 'shattered.' The Redneck Woman singer, 51, recently opened up about her leg injury left her wheelchair-bound for many months. She said the 'setback' happened while circle dancing with a six-year-old boy to Ring Around the Rosie when she lost her footing. During an appearance on Taste of Country Nights with Evan Paul this week, she recalled: 'We were at a wedding reception and it was on the beach, so they had thrown one of those Astroturf carpeting things over the sand.' The country music star, who was the latest winner of The Masked Singer, said she was 'doing the spin at 100 mph' when her ankle twisted in one of the holes from the Astroturf. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'It was ugly,' she admitted. 'You seen those videos online with the foot hanging the wrong way? It was one of those. Once I went down, I did not get back up.' She told the outlet that in the moment, she thought that she wouldn't be able to perform again. Wilson also recalled how it took nine months before she could even put any pressure on that foot following her injury. She said that after months of recovery, she received the offer to join The Masked Singer — which would require her to not only sing but also dance again. She admitted that she previously rejected that call in the past but wanted to get back on stage again and welcomed the opportunity. 'All the choreography, it was stressful, but it was good for me,' she said. 'It was hard work. It was really good for me and I proved a lot to myself,' she said while reflecting on her time on the singing competition series. Wilson appeared on the 13th season of Fox's reality show and won as the character Pearl. 'I was absolutely positive that Boogie won. I thought he was just the most amazing singer,' Wilson, whose last album was her 2017 release Ready To Get Rowdy, told People. 'In my head, he had won it weeks before,' she confessed. 'I was so stunned because I had myself ready to hear that I was second place. I was so ready for it, I had already decided that that's what it should be in my head.' After she was announced as the winner, she admitted: 'But being a mom, I felt bad. It was like, "No, no, no, no, no, no, I'm happy with second! He won! 'I think that's probably how he would've felt too. He's just such an incredibly, incredibly likable person. I wished I could have shared it with him.' After being unmasked she said that she felt her win was the 'career comeback' she was waiting for. Wilson first rose to fame with her first single Redneck Woman in 2004 as her debut album became certified 5x platinum. 'I've had a rough couple of years. I was injured. I was in a wheelchair,' she said. 'And there was a moment where I didn't think I'd ever get back to this place,' Wilson admitted. 'And I worked really hard, I prayed really hard, and I got so far. But this opportunity has really proven to me that there's nothing I can't do.'

Young Auckland FC fan's leg gashed on way home from semi-final

An Auckland mother says her 11-year-old son needed surgery after gashing his leg on a metal post leaving the Auckland FC game at the weekend , and wants all berms checked for hazards. Mary Beattie's son Jude is a huge football fan. She and her husband took their four children to Saturday's game at Mt Smart Stadium with friends as a birthday treat for their younger son. But it all turned pear-shaped when they were leaving the match and Jude walked into a knee-height metal post on a berm. "There were so many people, it wasn't like you would notice it or avoid it. It was dark, and of course it kind of camouflaged into the ground, so it was just totally unobvious," she said. "Next thing, he's impaled his shin into it and then everyone stopped and you could see how bad it was, and I could see the flesh out, it was awful. "He just said, 'Mum, I just had no idea it was there.'" The offending post. Photo: Mary Beattie / supplied They used a Te Atatu Football Club scarf as a tourniquet - the club Jude plays for. Beattie said the gash was deep and she knew immediately they had to get to hospital. "When I saw how bad it was, I was quite concerned - I could see that it was almost to the bone and that there was flesh coming out." Her husband stayed with their other children while she and Jude hailed a taxi to Starship Hospital. "I had to leave my other children standing there in tears, looking very, very worried about their elder brother, who they all adore." Beattie sang the praises of the taxi driver and hospital staff. "He was obviously in a whole lot of pain. The taxi driver, bless him, he lifted him, carried him into the hospital," she said. "[Jude] was saying, 'Oh that taxi driver was so kind, wasn't he?'" The gash. Photo: Mary Beattie / supplied Jude was quickly assessed as needing surgery and had stitches under general anaesthetic on Sunday afternoon, still wearing his Auckland FC top. Beattie said local authorities and private landowners need to ensure crowds can safely walk to and from the stadium, especially when it is dark. "I just have no idea how on Earth this [post] could be standing up at the ground like that, legally. It's just such a hazard waiting to happen. "I would hope that the council would be checking the areas around a big stadium where they know there's going to be lots of people, so that there aren't any hazards and other people aren't at risk of getting hurt." Jude and Mary at the hospital. Photo: Mary Beattie / supplied Auckland Transport (AT) manages the berm, and a spokesperson said its maintenance team removed the metal post - and another trip hazard found there - as soon as they heard about the injury. "We were really disappointed to hear that a boy was injured in Penrose last night while heading home from the Auckland FC match at Go Media Stadium," they said. "We're wishing Jude a speedy recovery and hope he is able to get back on to the football field as quickly as possible." AT is responsible for maintaining more than 7500km of footpaths in Auckland and regularly inspects roads and footpaths, but relies on Aucklanders to report issues with berms, particularly in commercial areas. "When issues are reported to us we aim to promptly send out our contractors to address these, especially if there is a safety risk," the spokesperson said. Te Atatu Football Club. Photo: Mary Beattie / supplied Beattie said she was overwhelmed and thankful for the support the family received from the Te Atatu community. Jude played for three football teams, and missed a tournament with Te Atatu Football club on Sunday. The team rallied around Jude and brought him the trophy and medal they won in his absence. "They all tucked their shirt in, in honour of him, because he's the only one that tucks his shirt in when they're playing because his shirt's too big." She said Jude's biggest challenge would be having at least two weeks off sports - he had various tournaments coming up that he hoped to play. Fisherman alerts authorities to man in distress near Merced River, deputies say

A man was rescued near the Merced River Thursday morning. Deputies arrived with a small boat and rescued the man, who had suffered a leg injury after reportedly jumping off the Cressy Bridge 'for fun,' authorities said. He was found by a fisherman who called for help. The water below the bridge was only waist deep, deputies said. Deputies applied a tourniquet at the scene and transported the individual across the river, where paramedics provided medical care. He was airlifted to a local area hospital and is expected to be OK, deputies said.
