Tracking t-storms late Sunday and Monday, multi-day severe threat

A sunny and warm Saturday afternoon and evening will give way to returning rain and t-storm chances by Sunday evening, as a low pressure system moves into the region. Storms will pose a severe risk late Sunday with damaging winds and hail being the primary threats locally, mainly after 7 PM and into the overnight hours. Multiple rounds of thunderstorm activity are likely once again on Monday, posing a secondary severe threat with all hazards possible, including damaging winds, hail, and tornadoes through Monday night. Heavy rainfall could also result in localized flooding, with 2 - 4 inches of rain forecast across Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas through Tuesday. Stay weather aware Sunday and Monday as storms fire and track across the region. Lingering rain and t-storm chances early Tuesday will give way to a cool and dry spell, with below average temperatures likely by the middle of next week.

Winds pick up through the weekend

Winds will pick up through the weekend across New Mexico. The strongest winds will be Sunday and Monday when areas of blowing dust and a high fire danger will develop. It was a calmer day across New Mexico Friday afternoon, but winds were still gusting over 30 mph in a few parts of the state. Temperatures were warmer across the entire state as well today with highs back up to around average again for the middle of May. Breezier winds will return to the state again Saturday afternoon with gusts as high as 45 mph. This will bring a high fire danger across the state again during the afternoon hours. High temperatures will also be even warmer Saturday afternoon. Evaporating rain showers will be possible in parts of the state Saturday afternoon as well, which could produce locally windy conditions. A storm system scrapes across New Mexico Sunday and Monday. This will bring high winds back in the afternoon, especially for areas along and south of I-40. This is where wind gusts up to 55 mph will be possible both afternoons. Areas of blowing dust are likely in southern New Mexico, which could close highways and interstates again. A high fire danger will also develop with these high winds and dry conditions. Meanwhile, isolated showers and storms will move through northwestern and northern New Mexico. Some snow will be possible across mountain peaks as well. An isolated shower may make it as far south as Santa Fe and Albuquerque Monday afternoon. Winds will quickly die down Monday night with calmer conditions by the middle of next week. An area of high pressure will develop over New Mexico, bringing in calmer, but more dry weather. Temperatures will also be climbing. Some of the warmest weather so far this year will arrive next Friday, with Albuquerque's first 90° day of the year possible. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
