55th Watch and Jewellery Middle East Show concludes on a high note with world records and 87,000+ visitors
Sharjah: Expo Centre Sharjah concluded the 55th edition of the Watch and Jewellery Middle East Show, yesterday, Sunday, recording unprecedented figures in participation and attendance. Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed AlQasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and with the support of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), the five-day exhibition attracted more than 87,000 visitors, marking 9 percent increase compared to the previous edition. This reinforces the exhibition's status as one of the largest and most significant gold and jewellery trade exhibitions in the UAE and the region. The 55th Watch and Jewellery Middle East Show featured the participation of over 500 local and international exhibitors, representing high-end brands in gold, diamonds, and luxury watches, in addition to 1,800 high-profile designers, manufacturers, and industry professionals. Occupying an expansive 30,000 square metres, the exhibition marked the debut participation of several international participants from Russia, Mexico, Tanzania, and Egypt. It also saw the presence of an elite group of leading jewellery and watchmakers from both local and global markets. Key exhibiting countries include the UAE, India, Italy, the United Kingdom, the United States, Singapore, China, Japan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Lebanon. The 55th edition presented a set of exclusive jewellery pieces and culturally inspired international designs officially recognised by Guinness World Records. Key highlights included the unveiling of the world's longest diamond necklace. The masterpiece spans 108 meters and is adorned with more than 600 lab-grown diamonds, meticulously crafted in 18-karat rose gold. The exhibition also unveiled the 'Union Frame,' which has entered the Guinness World Records as the world's largest gold frame. Another standout attraction was a fully gold-plated car introduced by Al Romaizan Gold and Jewellery. Nicknamed 'Gold-Zilla' for its looks and powerful performance, the extraordinarily rare piece is valued at nearly 3.67 million dirhams, offering a unique blend of mechanical power and dynamic artistic innovation. The 55th Watch and Jewellery Middle East Show witnessed a distinguished presence by the Italian pavilion that unveiled rare collections of handcrafted diamond and jewellery pieces. The pavilion featured around 50 brands, a 15 percent growth over the previous edition, making Italy the largest international participant in the show. Designed by some of Italy's most celebrated designers, the collections were custom-designed and produced exclusively for the exhibition, with each piece offered in highly limited editions, typically no more than two per design, drawing wide attention from global luxury jewellery connoisseurs. Among the standout pieces were 'Zayed's Lantern,' the 'Palm Necklace,' the 'Well' design, and the 'Emirati Dama'a,' along with a variety of finely crafted jewellery pieces made with gemstones, natural pearls, and gold, all showcasing exceptional skill and artistry. The exhibition is set to announce today, Monday, the winners of prestigious prizes allocated for its visitors, including a Tesla Model 3 and luxury gold and diamond sets. The 55th edition presented rare and exclusive collections of high-end jewellery, exceptional diamonds, and premium timepieces, all offered at competitive prices and with special discounts. Sharjah, The 55th edition of the Watch and Jewellery Middle East Show enters its second day at Expo Centre Sharjah with a dazzling display of exclusive global jewellery designs. With over 500 exhibitors and leading local and international brands, the exhibition provides a premier venue to explore rare gold pieces, luxury watches, and signature diamond collections, and will continue through June 1, 2025. Among the highlights of this edition is a gold-plated car presented by Al Romaizan Gold and Jewellery. Nicknamed 'Gold-Zilla' for its looks and powerful performance, this extraordinarily rare piece is valued at nearly 3.67 million dirhams, offering a unique blend of mechanical power and dynamic artistic innovation. Based on a 2014 Nissan GT-R, the vehicle is fully covered in intricate 24K gold-plated engravings. This one-of-a-kind creation was designed by Japan's Kuhl Racing and Japanese artist Takahiko Izawa, with the entire body hand-engraved before being finished in gold. It took over 2,000 hours to complete the detailed work. The 55th Watch and Jewellery Middle East Show also features a distinguished presence by the Italian pavilion, with a total footprint of 708sqm across the exhibition. The pavilion hosts nearly 50 exhibitors, including some of Italy's most renowned companies, brands, and designers in the gold and jewellery industry. The pavilion dazzled visitors with a curated display of hundreds of pieces, from diamond and gold creations to rare gemstones and fine metals. The showcase is complemented by a culturally inspired collection that reflect the Italian artistic traditions, drawing significant interest from attendees. The exhibition is open to visitors on Friday from 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and on Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 PM to 10:00. It features an exceptional craftsmanship and innovative designs from leading brands and designers representing a diverse range of countries, including the UAE, India, Italy, the United Kingdom, the United States, Singapore, China, Japan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Lebanon. 4 teens arrested over attempted robberies after posing as luxury watch buyers
SINGAPORE: Four men aged 17 to 19 have been arrested for their suspected involvement in two attempted robberies where they targeted victims looking to sell luxury watches. Police said on Thursday (May 29) they received a call for assistance at Block 432 Clementi Avenue 3 at about 1.44pm on Wednesday, after two of the teens allegedly tried to rob a victim. The victim had arranged to meet the two teens to sell a luxury watch. But when the victim arrived, the two teens - one of them armed with a knife - attempted to cover the victim's head with a plastic bag, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) said in a news release. The victim managed to escape and call the police. Police identified and arrested the two teens later that day. The knife, which had earlier been discarded, was recovered. It was then found that the two teens, along with two others, had attempted something similar the previous day. In that incident, the victim was also lured to the same HDB block to sell a luxury watch. "When the victim arrived at the block, he felt suspicious of the circumstances and managed to leave before being robbed," said the police. The two other teens were subsequently arrested on Wednesday. The two teens involved in Wednesday's incident will be charged in court on Friday with attempted armed robbery. One of the teens involved in Tuesday's incident will be charged with attempted robbery, while the other will be investigated for being part of a criminal conspiracy to commit robbery. Those found guilty of attempted armed robbery may be jailed for two to seven years and face at least 12 strokes of the cane. For attempted robbery, the offence is punishable with imprisonment for two to seven years and at least six strokes of the cane. The police advised members of the public to be alert and attentive to their surroundings when meeting potential buyers or sellers or making transactions in person, especially when carrying valuables or large sums of cash. They should also avoid secluded places and report anything suspicious to the police immediately.
