Hong Kong's South China Morning Post scoops 4 prizes at Global Media Awards

Hong Kong's South China Morning Post has won four prizes at Global Media Awards organised by the International News Media Association, including one for its new video project, #852 stories. During the awards ceremony in New York on Thursday, the Post's #852 stories series secured third place in the Best New Video Product or Feature category for national brands. The weekly series, which has produced more than 50 videos since its launch in May last year, was up against contenders from The Kyiv Independent Media in Ukraine and a BBC series on New Delhi, India. #852 stories, a collaborative project between the Post's city and video desks, is led by young reporters and is named after Hong Kong's calling code. Among the stories covered are young Hongkongers who have turned to claw machines as a cheap source of joy and the growing popularity of two-dish rice shops in the city, reflecting changing dining habits after the pandemic. Reporters also rose to the challenge, trying out a range of experiences from lion-dancing to training as a stuntman for action films and putting themselves up for 'auction' at a Pitch-a-Friend meet-up.

PNG's Jamie Haro is kicking goals in sports media after once 'doubting' her career path

You'll hear stories about athletes and their tales of sporting glory, but what about the people writing and reporting those stories? Enter Jamie Haro, an award-winning journalist and budding sports commentator, who at 28 has accumulated quite the list of career milestones across Papua New Guinea's media landscape. A proud pikinini of Gulf Province, Jamie's work has spanned print media, online, and nationally broadcast television, and it all came down to one fateful decision following high school. Presented with a number of options, her first choice was law school. "I was really interested in how the law system works here in Papua New Guinea," she told Nesia Daily. "I guess I doubted myself when it came to choosing my career pathway." Going instead with her first backup option — journalism — Jamie has since experienced a number of career highlights, including being a star graduate of ABC International Development's Women in News and Sports (WINS) Initiative. Jamie Haro was recently named Sports Journalist of the Year at the 2025 PNG Media Awards. ( ) Earlier this year, she was named one of 14 emerging leaders in women's sports by Women in Sport Aotearoa & Pasifika Sisters in Sport. And only a few days ago, she was named Sports Journalist of the Year at the 2025 PNG Media Awards. While speaking with Nesia Daily, Jamie reflected on her journey so far, and goals for the near future, and she made a strong case for the power of manifesting one's wildest dreams.
