Mom ‘engulfed in flames' and suffered burns to 48% of her body in horrific smoker BBQ explosion
A Pennsylvania community is seeking donations for a mother badly burned in a Memorial Day smoker explosion, suffering burns on over 46 percent of her body. Isabell Anderson of York County was using a smoker when the flames suddenly engulfed her arms, chest, neck and face, according to a GoFundMe created by her friend Amber Sklar to help with her medical and living expenses. 'She was literally lit on fire, and worst of all… the children saw everything,' Sklar wrote. Anderson was taken to a burn center two hours away to be treated. 'She's now in excruciating pain, battling a high fever and infection, and none of the pain medications have worked,' Sklar wrote, adding in an update Tuesday that Anderson is now 'living in constant awareness of her skin.' Sklar said she and Anderson moved into a house together to raise their kids. Anderson homeschools her three children, as well as Sklar's child, and also cares for her children's father, who has been battling cancer since December 2023. The woman said she pays the mortgage while Anderson pays the utilities, groceries, gas, car payments and feeds the animals. But after Anderson's tragic incident, the whole blended family is struggling. 'The mortgage is due. Groceries are running low. The utilities are piling up. The kids are hurting, opening the fridge, hoping for something that isn't there. We're trying to keep life "normal" for them, but the truth is - we need help,' Sklar wrote. Anderson's GoFundMe has raised over $1,700 toward its $4,500 goal.

Public outrage as China woman dies outside bank after instructed to make in-person withdrawal
A bank in China is under scrutiny following the death of a gravely ill elderly woman outside one of its branches, where she was instructed to withdraw money in person. The incident occurred on May 14 at the Agricultural Bank of China branch in Zhuzhou, Hunan province. The sick customer was brought by her daughter and son-in-law to withdraw 50,000 yuan (US$7,000) to cover her medical expenses. The 62-year-old woman, known as Peng, had been suffering from diabetes for years. Recently, she had been hospitalised after falling and fracturing her leg, according to Dahe News. One of Peng's daughters arrived at the bank that afternoon with her mother's identity card and deposit book but was unable to complete the transaction due to entering the password incorrectly several times. Despite telling the bank clerk that her mother was unwell, the clerk insisted that Peng must be present in person to resolve the issue. One of the woman's daughters came to the bank that afternoon with her mother's identity card and bank book, but was unable to complete the transaction due to a password issue. Photo: SCMP composite/Sohu/X The daughter subsequently called her sister, who, along with her husband, transported Peng to the bank in a wheelchair. However, after an hour, they were still unable to withdraw the funds.

Foreman Circle shooting victim's family starts GoFundMe to help with medical, living expenses
MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — The family of a man shot outside his home on Foreman Circle on May 15 has started a GoFundMe to raise money for his medical expenses and care after he comes home from the hospital. Massive bull shark caught outside mouth of Mobile Bay News 5 previously reported that Matthew Delaney was on the phone outside his home when he was hit by gunfire. According to Delaney's family, he ran to the back of the house, noticed he was bleeding and drove himself down the road where he met a friend who took him to the hospital. 'The bullet entered through the upper end of his jaw on the left side and went down through his neck and shoulder,' Delaney's brother, James Delaney, told News 5. Mobile police said Delaney was not the intended target. According to the GoFundMe page, Delaney's doctors are calling his survival 'nothing short of a miracle,' noting that the bullet, which traveled down his neck and exited through his shoulder, missed major arteries. Despite that, doctors said the injury is serious and will require extensive medical treatment and recovery. '(Doctors) did set a clear expectation that his recovery will require additional surgeries, therapy and rehab,' the fundraiser said. Delaney was working at a local ship agency, working with the Port of Mobile, according to his family, but they say many people will know him from previous employment. 'Many of you may know him from his long-time roles at Azalea Seafood and TP Crockmiers, where his warm personality and dedication left a lasting mark,' the GoFundMe page said. Funds from the GoFundMe will pay for medical expenses, mental health support, physical therapy and living expenses during his recovery, 'allowing Matthew to focus on healing and regaining stability,' the page said. 'Every donation, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference,' family said on the page. 'It's our turn to lift him up. Together, we can show him he's not alone in this fight.' The fundraising goal is $40,000. UPDATE: No foul play suspected in death of woman at Pensacola Publix To donate, leave words of encouragement or keep up with Delaney's progress, go to the GoFundMe page. Man Says His Roommate 'Stole' His Cake, Then Demanded He Pay His Hospital Bill After Having an Allergic Reaction
A 24-year-old man says his roommate had an allergic reaction after eating cake that didn't belong to him from a fridge in their apartment The man, who shared his experience on Reddit, says the roommate is now insisting that the Redditor cover his medical expenses The Redditor says he is refusing to pay for the roommate's medical bills, adding, "he stole my cake without even telling me" A man says his roommate stole his cake and then had an allergic reaction to it — and is now demanding that the man pay his medical bills. The 24-year-old detailed his experience on the popular Reddit forum 'Am I the A------?' a place where people can go to seek advice about interpersonal dilemmas. In his post, the man says that he and his 26-year-old roommate — who he says were 'friends before living with each other' — share a two-bedroom apartment, and that they agreed they would not share groceries. 'We have separate mini fridges in our rooms so you [can't] even eat or drink something that isn't yours on accident,' the Redditor explains. However, the man says that he recently came home and found his fridge empty and a 'plate in the trash.' He says that his roommate — who it turns out is allergic to peanut butter — had gone into his fridge and helped himself to some cake. The roommate's face soon became 'puffy and red as a tomato, so he called an ambulance,' the original poster (OP) continues. Never miss a story — sign up for to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories. While the roommate was ultimately fine, the OP says that 'after he saw the cost of [the] ambulance and Epipen' he 'asked me to pay for it all because apparently I 'posioned him.' ' The man says he told the roommate to 'F off,' and reminded him that 'he stole my cake without even telling me.' The man says that the roommate told 'all' of their mutual friends about the incident and says they are now telling him he should 'at least help' with some of the costs. 'So, aita [am I the a------]?' the Redditor asks at the end of his post. Post commenters were quick to assure the man that he should not feel obligated to help the roommate pay his own medical bills — and that he has every right to feel resentful of the demand. 'NTA [not the a------],' said one person. 'This is no different than if he'd had an adverse reaction to your medication. It wasn't meant for him. You didn't give it to him or agree to him having any. This is 100% his fault and his problem.' The same person added: 'Not only do you not owe him a dime, you need to make it very clear that his medical bills are not an excuse to fall behind on rent or utilities because there is a 100% chance he's going to say that he needs you to cover those if he has to pay his own medical bill. Plant your feet and don't back down.' The PEOPLE Puzzler crossword is here! How quickly can you solve it? Play now! 'NTA. Absolutely not,' agreed someone else. 'He went into your fridge, took something that was not his, and ate it. This is a well-deserved, expensive lesson for him.' 'Technically, he's a thief and owes you a cake,' said another person.
