EXCLUSIVE Woman shares wild details about how she met her husband-to-be in chance airplane encounter

A woman started chatting with her 'cute' seatmate on an airplane, and now, they're gearing up to get married - and their adorable love story has completely captured the globe. Megan Meza, 30, from Los Angeles, California, had just boarded her flight to London in April 2022 when she noticed an attractive guy approaching her row. It's every girl's dream to be sat next to a handsome man on a flight, and Megan instantly started fantasizing about them meeting and fall in love - unknowing that it would actually come true. 'I immediately thought he was cute. I saw him pause near our row, and I thought, there is no way he is going to sit next to me,' she recalled exclusively to 'So when he put his backpack on the seat, I couldn't believe it. It's like every single girls' dream to have the cute guy sit next to you in some meet-cute fantasy. 'And here it was suddenly happening. I actually texted my mom (who was sitting in a different row) along with my sister and friends being like. "CUTE GUY IN MY ROW. SOS."' Megan didn't know how to start up a conversation with her seatmate - a six-foot-two British man named Freddie Gershinson, 31 - but when he dropped his Airpods, she took her chance. 'I could see him searching for them. He was trying to not get in the way because people were still boarding,' Megan continued. 'I said to him, "Hey, I've dropped my Airpods before. Try looking in the row behind us when we take off. They will roll backwards." 'He thanked me and... I sort of thought that was it. I had no other expectations.' But that wasn't it. In fact, Megan and Freddie ultimately ended up talking for over two hours. 'At this point I was like, okay, this is fun and flirty. Like he had every opportunity to go back to his music, but we kept chatting,' she dished. 'I [couldn't believe I was] having a connection with a total stranger.' After the cabin lights dimmed and people started to settle into sleep, the two stopped talking as they didn't want to be rude to the other passengers who were trying to get some shut-eye. Soon after, Freddie passed her his phone. The screen was on the notes app and he had written her a message that said: 'Have you got a boyfriend?' 'No,' she replied with a smiley face. That led to them talking for 'another four hours' before they finally decided to get some rest. When they landed, the two exchanged numbers, and by the time she was at her gate for her next flight, Megan said she already had a text from Freddie. Soon after, Freddie passed her his phone; the screen was on the notes app and he had written her a message that said: 'Have you got a boyfriend?' She replied, 'No,' with a smiley face He told her that it was a 'pleasure to sit next to her' and that he was returning home 'with a smile on his face' because of her. 'At that point I was like - I have never met a man who is so confident and upfront with his emotions and it sucks that I will probably never see him again,' Megan said. 'We continued to text immediately after the flight. About three days after we met, he called me and said he hadn't felt a connection like this before, and wanted to see if I would come stay with him in London [after my family vacation].' Unfortunately, Megan wasn't able to change her airline ticket so she told him that if they were still talking by the summer, she'd come and visit him. She added that she wasn't interested in 'something long-distance.' But the two couldn't get enough of one another and their feelings were undeniable. They talked 'every day' on the phone for three months before she flew back to London to see him that July. 'On the third day [of the trip], he took me to meet his parents for tea, then surprised me with an early birthday dinner, and then we met his friends for drinks,' she explained. 'It was that night I thought, I can't go back home and that be the end of it. Everything was too natural - his family, his friends, our connection. 'He was so intentional, kind, and so confident in who he was. So that night, we had a long talk about all of it, and we made it official. His words were, "I like you too much to not try to make this work." So we did.' Flash forward to now, and Megan and Freddie are gearing up to tie the knot. He proposed in May 2024 at Hampstead Heath in London under a tree in the rain, and she said the moment felt like it was 'out of a movie.' They opened up about their relationship on TikTok in a video shared last July, and it has since gone viral, racking up more than eight million views. And it left hundreds of thousands of people in awe of their meet-cute. 'For me the biggest takeaway was been understanding the love I both wanted and deserved,' Megan concluded. 'I never expected to date him, let alone marry him, so for those first few weeks of talking, I really kept saying to myself, this is setting the bar for whatever comes next. 'This is the type of person I want and deserve to be with. Little did I know he WAS that person. 'Dating is a drag and with Freddie, I never felt like we were playing games. If I had known this was waiting for me, I wouldn't have wasted another day crying over boys who didn't deserve the tears. 'So don't lose hope. The right person is out there and it would have sucked to settle and never have found this.'
