Man charged with using 250,000 stolen KrisFlyer miles to shop
SINGAPORE: A man was on Thursday (May 29) charged with spending over 250,000 KrisFlyer miles in other people's accounts without their permission. Rizaldy Primanta Putra, a 28-year-old Indonesian, was charged with four counts under the Computer Misuse Act. Appearing through a video link from remand, he told a district court that he intended to claim trial to the charges. His bail has been set at S$15,000 (US$11,600). Rizaldy is accused of using 4,672 miles in a KrisPay wallet to buy items valued at S$31.15 at Bugis Junction on Jun 8, 2024. The KrisPay wallet was linked to a KrisFlyer account that belonged to another person, which Rizaldy was not authorised to use. On Jun 21, 2024, he allegedly used 245,491 KrisFlyer miles from another account to buy S$1,636.61 worth of items at Changi Airport. For each of these two instances, Rizaldy was also given a charge of logging into the accounts on the Kris+ app without authorisation. According to the police, Rizaldy accessed KrisFlyer accounts that belonged to other people after illegally buying them online while he was overseas. He flew to Singapore in June 2024, and allegedly committed the offences by buying pastries at Bugis Junction and a phone and phone cover at Changi Airport. In October 2024, Singapore Airlines made a police report about suspected fraudulent transactions using KrisFlyer miles that were detected by local retailers. Rizaldy was identified through ground enquiries and closed-circuit television footage. But he had already left Singapore in September 2024. He was detained by Airport Police Division officers at Changi Airport when he returned to Singapore on Jan 11. If found guilty of stealing other people's KrisFlyer miles, thereby causing an unauthorised modification of the contents of a computer, he faces up to three years in jail, a fine of up to S$10,000 or both. If convicted of logging into other people's KrisFlyer accounts when he was not authorised to do so, he could be jailed for up to two years, fined up to S$5,000 or both.

American Airlines Is Offering 1 Million Seats For as Little as 5,000 Miles—What to Know
Got American Airlines AAdvantage miles saved up? Now might be the time to redeem them if you're looking for late-summer trip. Through May 28, the airline has one million Main Cabin domestic (excluding Alaska and Hawaii) and short-haul international award seats up for grabs that cost just 5,000 miles. The airline has also discounted some transatlantic flights from the U.S. to Europe for as little as 15,000 miles. According to the airline, this sale is valid on flights departing between Aug. 1 and Sept. 30, 2025. There's no guarantee that you'll find a discounted award flight on your desired route and travel date, but there are plenty of great deals to be had if your travel plans are flexible. For example, we're seeing popular routes like New York to Miami, Los Angeles to Chicago, and Miami to Austin available at the 5,000-mile level throughout August and September. You'll pay just $5.60 in taxes and fees on these award tickets. Moving our focus abroad, we're finding the cheapest transatlantic award tickets on flights to London from American hubs like Chicago, New York City, and Philadelphia. Taxes and fees on these tickets vary depending on if you're departing from the U.S. or the U.K. You can also find solid deals on other European routes. For example, we found one-way tickets from Chicago to Rome and New York to Milan for 20,000 American miles in August and September. You're in luck if you have your sights set on Central America, too. There are 5,000-mile award seats to places like Belize, Guatemala, and Mexico. Even routes like New York City to Cancun have discounted tickets. It might be worth booking one of these tickets even if your plans aren't set, as you can cancel and redeposit the miles paid for an American award ticket at no charge. This lets you lock down your discounted trip even if you're not entirely sure you can travel. Plus, if you already have an American Airlines award ticket booked for August or September, check and see if the price has dropped due to this sale. If so, you can cancel and rebook your existing ticket and pocket the price difference.

Is First Class for everyone? This guy may have the answer
Brian Kelly started "The Points Guy" to help people maximize their credit card points and miles for better travel experiences. "My passion is helping people maximize their points and miles so they can travel better," Kelly told Fox News Digital in an exclusive interview. The Points Guy is a website that helps travelers expand on their experiences and also get tips on all things travel. Aside from airplane miles and credit card points, the website answers any questions travelers may have so they can feel prepared and encouraged to travel. Kelly's passion for travel and his interest in maximizing points began as a kid in the 1990s. "My dad got a job for a startup. We lived outside of Philadelphia. And so he would travel from Philadelphia to LA every other week. So, while it was tough on us as kids that he couldn't make every basketball game, the silver lining of it all is that he got a lot of frequent flyer miles. So when I was 12 years old, he challenged me, 'Hey, if you can figure out how to use these miles, our family of six would go on vacation for free.'" Kelly decided that the family would visit the Cayman Islands, after being inspired by the book "The Firm" by John Grisham. Fast-forward to 2010, when Kelly began The Points Guy as a blog that expanded into a company with staff around the world. Kelly started The Points Guy after utilizing points throughout college and young adult life and getting experiences like first-class airplane seats by using frequent flyer miles, even while on a tight budget. "While we still focus a lot on points and credit cards, we cover everything travel, from cruises to theme parks. We want to let travelers get the most out of their experience. So if there are smart ways to book things, to get discounts, to get cheap fares-- And I also like to think, you know, in general, we're giving life tips, whether it's loyalty programs or credit cards. We empower consumers to understand the ecosystem that they're operating in," Kelly said. Kelly wrote the book "How To Win At Travel" to help answer the range of questions travelers may have, from travel tips to even grappling with anxiety. "It's been 15 years since I started The Points Guy," he said. "And while we've helped millions and millions of people get value out of the system, there's still so many people who are overwhelmed. Now there's almost too much information in social media and online, where it can be very difficult for someone who's new to this to approach it in a way that makes sense. So I wrote 'How To Win At Travel' to be that on-ramp guide to people who want to do more in travel." "Playing the points game isn't just about travel. It's about investing in your own personal financial success," he said. Brian Kelly will appear on "Fox & Friends" on Monday morning.
