Kirtland Airman missing at New Mexico lake. Search surpasses 24 hours.
May 25—A search around Elephant Butte Lake for a missing airman stationed at Kirtland Air Force Base remains ongoing and has now lasted over 24 hours.
In a news release, emailed Sunday afternoon, Kirtland said an unnamed man assigned to the 351st Special Warfare was missing following an incident on Saturday evening at the lake.
The release said that Elephant Butte Lake State Park rangers, Elephant Butte Fire Department, New Mexico Department of Game and Fish and New Mexico State Police were all participating in the search.
The Journal reached out to representatives of the Air Force base for further information on the incident, but Kirtland declined to comment.
The news release lists a phone number for the public to call for "further information," however, that line doesn't appear to be operating.
