Colorado man allegedly steals truck in Aurora, gets into head-on crash, sending 5 people to the hospital
Five people were taken to the hospital and an Aurora man is now in jail after police say he stole a pickup truck, drove it through Denver and Glendale, and got into a head-on collision with another car while allegedly under the influence Saturday night. Michael Guadalupe Freyta, 26, of Aurora, was arrested after being released from the hospital and now faces charges of eluding, motor vehicle theft, and two counts of vehicular assault -- all felonies -- and misdemeanor DUI. One of the four people injured in the other car was taken to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, while the others were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, according to the Aurora Police Department. Michael Guadalupe Freyta Aurora Police Department A department spokesman says the truck Freyta was driving -- a 2000 Dodge Ram -- was confirmed stolen when officers saw the car around 5:45 p.m. on Saturday near East Mississippi Avenue and South Chambers Road. Officers followed the vehicle and tried to stop it at South Potomac Street and East Mississippi Avenue. Freyta allegedly fled and officers chased him west through Denver into Glendale. He then crashed into another vehicle with four people in it near South Leetsdale Drive and South Cherry Street in Glendale. Aurora police are investigating the alleged theft and several other aspects of the incident, while Colorado State Patrol's Vehicular Crimes Unit is investigating the crash. Freyta has previously been arrested on charges of motor vehicle theft, ID theft, fraud, and forgery, and he's allegedly failed to maintain his status on the sex offender registry for an Adams County conviction involving a minor, according to Aurora police.

CSPD arrests man in carjacking case on South Academy
(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) reported that on Friday, May 9, officers responded to a report of a carjacking in progress on South Academy Boulevard near Airport Road, in which a man was reported to have assaulted a victim and stolen their keys and car. According to CSPD, when officers arrived, the suspect had already left the location in the 600 block of Academy. Several minutes later, officers found the vehicle at an apartment complex in the 300 block of South Union Boulevard, near Memorial Park. CSPD reported that officers found the man, later identified as 34-year-old Kavon McDade, after he had forced his way into one of the buildings. CSPD: Car theft suspect tased, arrested after chase
(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A man was tased and arrested Friday, May 9, after fleeing from officers who had tracked down the stolen car he was driving, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD). CSPD reported that on Wednesday, May 7, members of the Motor Vehicle Theft (MVT) unit found a stolen Chevy Tracker in the area of Drennan Road and Drennan Industrial Loop North, near Astrozon Boulevard and South Academy Boulevard. A K9 unit tried to stop the driver, later identified as 30-year-old Joshua Cody James Davis, but Davis accelerated and got away from the marked police vehicle. According to CSPD, on Friday, May 9, around 4:15 p.m., MVT investigators learned that Davis had a felony warrant for arrest for a robbery probation violation. They tracked Davis and the stolen vehicle down at a T.J. Maxx, in the 3800 block of Bloomington Street, near North Carefree Circle and North Powers Boulevard, where he had parked and gone into the store. When Davis came out of the store and returned to the stolen vehicle, he encountered detectives and tactical officers who ordered him to surrender, according to CSPD. Davis ran from law enforcement, and after several warnings, he was tased and surrendered. Davis was taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries, then to the Criminal Justice Center and charged with motor vehicle theft, vehicular eluding, and obstructing a peace officer.
