Rosamund Pike recalls getting punched and mugged while on the phone with her mom: 'All she heard was me scream'
Rosamund Pike is opening up about a casual phone call home that became a traumatic incident for the actress and her mother. The Wheel of Time star has revealed that she was once walking the streets of London while chatting with her mom when someone sped by on a bike and mugged her. "I was on the phone to my mother, on a mobile phone walking along a road, and I was mugged," Pike recalled during a recent visit to Magic Radio. "The phone was snatched, so all she heard was me scream and a thud, and the phone went dead." But it wasn't just a drive-by mugging — Pike said the culprit also "punched me down the side of my cheek" before grabbing the phone from her hand. She said that in the moment she was "angry," but also knew that because of the abruptly ended phone call, she wasn't the only one who had to endure the fear and panic. "I walked to the pub and called [my mom] when I got there and met my friends," Pike said. "But for her, it was probably a pretty horrible 15 minutes." A representative for the actress has clarified that the attack took place in 2006. Later in the conversation, Pike and her Hollow Road costar Matthew Rhys pointed out that a similar incident is at the center of their new film, which recently debuted in the U.K. The thriller stars Pike and Rhys as parents who receive a distressing late-night call from their teenage daughter and, after racing to her location, find themselves stumbling through a disturbing series of revelations. While her mugging and attack occurred over a decade ago, Pike was recovering from another facial injury just last year when she walked the Golden Globes red carpet in January to celebrate her movie Saltburn's several nominations. The actress was wearing a lacy veiled headpiece that doubled as a fashion statement and a "protective" Dior veil. "I had an accident over Christmas, actually. I had a skiing accident," she explained on the red carpet. "And I had to think, that's not what you want knowing you're coming to the Golden Globes on the seventh of January."Pike said that when the accident occurred on Dec. 26, 2023, her face was "entirely smashed up and I thought I needed to do something." Though her injuries were mostly healed by the time the event came around, she opted not to waste the fashionable veil. Watch Pike recount her 2006 mugging on Magic Radio above. Rosamund Pike shares details of terrifying mugging incident
Rosamund Pike has shared details of a terrifying mugging incident. The 46-year-old actress was physically attacked on the streets of London as a mugger stole her phone. The incident dates back to 2006 when Pike was on the phone to her mother while the violent incident unfolded. The Wheel of Time star recalled to Magic Radio, "I was on the phone to my mother - on a mobile phone walking along a road - and I was mugged. "The phone was snatched so all she heard was me scream and a thud and the phone went dead... For her, it was probably a pretty horrible 15 minutes." Pike explained that she was left with a bruised face after the mugger punched her during the incident. The Saltburn star's comments come as the Metropolitan Police shared shocking statistics that 70,137 mobile phones were stolen in London last year - an average of 192 per day. Pike's comments also follow worrying comments by singer Ed Sheeran who has claimed the UK capital is no longer safe. Asked on a podcast last year which areas of London he felt were most dangerous, the Lego House singer said, "I'd say every area of London. Literally, every area is sketchy. I think that you cannot be anywhere. It's not like a segregated city." He added, "No, I mean the nice areas are sketchy, the bad areas are sketchy, but you just have to not do stupid sh**. If you wander around with, I dunno, like a Louis Vuitton duffel bag and a 200 grand watch, you are going to get robbed. But just don't do that."

Rosamund Pike reveals terrifying moment phone was snatched by mugger on bike
Rosamund Pike has revealed she had her phone snatched out of her hand and was punched in the face during a terrifying mugging incident in London. The Gone Girl star said she was speaking to her mother when a 'kid' sped past on a bike and grabbed the phone. The actor said her mother endured '15 minutes of hell' until she managed to phone her back from another device. The 46-year-old told Magic Radio: 'I was on the phone to my mother — on a mobile phone walking along a road — and I was mugged. 'The phone was snatched so all she heard was me scream and a thud and the phone went dead.' She said the attacker punched her while he sped past, leaving her with a bruise to her face. The Independent has contacted Ms Pike's representatives for comment. In London, residents, tourists and workers who commute into offices have witnessed a growing rise in mobile phone snatching, with a 151 per cent increase in the last year. Criminals often use bikes and mopeds to snatch mobile phones, and often victims are approached from behind while talking or texting on phones. The charity Crimestoppers reports that 54 per cent of phone snatches involve thieves using pedal bikes. Former Coronation Street actress Kym Marsh has also shared her experience of having her phone snatched in London. The 48-year-old had been walking down Buckingham Palace Road at around 9.30pm when she had her phone ripped from her hands, leaving her feeling 'really vulnerable' and 'shaken'. She said: 'It is quite a scary thing to happen to you, you're walking down a road and then all of a sudden something's taken out of your hand. And that was about a fortnight ago that was taken from me. But thankfully I was okay." The number of phone thefts has increased significantly in London, with over 200,000 phones stolen between 2020 and 2024, and over 1,000 stolen each week.

Gone Girl star Rosamund Pike falls victim to deadly phone snatchers as she is 'punched in the face and robbed while on the phone to her mother'
Rosamund Pike has revealed she was punched in the face and had her mobile phone snatched violently out of her hand by a 'mugger' on a bicycle. The James Bond and Gone Girl star, 46, spoke of her '15 minutes' of hell when she was targeted by the thief as she spoke to her mother while walking down the street. She said she screamed in terror and her mum, Caroline Friend, was left fearing the worst until she was able to call her back on another phone. Rosamund, who starred with Piers Brosnan in 2002's Die Another Day, told Magic Radio: 'I was on the phone to my mother — on a mobile phone walking along a road — and I was mugged. 'The phone was snatched so all she heard was me scream and a thud and the phone went dead.' She said the 'mugger' was a kid who sped past her on a bicycle and punched her down the side of her cheek. Rosamund, who was born in London, said the thief took her mobile phone and left her with a bruise on her face. The actress is the latest celeb to fall victim to the terrifying trend of phone snatching that is sweeping London. Former tennis star Annabel Croft said her mobile was stolen 'clean out of her hands' while she waited for a taxi outside London King's Cross station in June last year. Ms Croft wrote on Instagram: 'I just wanted to warn people who are on their own in London. I just got mugged waiting for a taxi outside King's Cross St Pancreas. 'The man was riding a bike and wearing a black balaclava. He rode straight at me and took my phone clean out of my hands. 'He rode away with it but luckily dropped my phone so I got it back. Terrifying!' Meanwhile, TV presenter Kym Marsh also had her phone swiped from her hand on a London street in March. Speaking to her co-host Gethin Jones on BBC's Morning Live, she said: 'It is quite a scary thing to happen to you, you're walking down a road and then all of a sudden something's taken out of your hand. 'And that was about a fortnight ago that was taken from me. But thankfully I was okay.' It comes as London is in the grips of a terrifying spate of phone snatchings where e-bike crooks use high-powered vehicles to steal the devices and make quick getaways. Figures have shown that a mobile phone is reported as stolen in London every six minutes. More than 70,000 mobiles were stolen in the capital last year with criminals using violence and distraction techniques to target victims. In 2023, the worst-hit borough was the City of Westminster, where tourists flock for theatre shows and high-end shopping, with 18,863 reported incidents in 2023. Camden was the second worst affected, with 4,806 incidents, followed by Southwark (4,376), Hackney (2,761), Newham (2,585), Lambeth (2,394) and Islington (2,117). Shocking videos show muggers swerving alongside pedestrians before grabbing their phones and making off with them at speed. One thief who was recently brought to justice stole 24 phones in one morning. But in recent months, 'various operations' deployed by the police force involving monitoring CCTV footage, increasing officers' awareness and 'employing' traffic units and surge teams have brought about a decrease in phone theft. A 27 per cent decrease was recorded in November last year while, in an even more promising statistic, a 43 per cent decrease was achieved the following month. Despite such successes, however, Kaya Comer-Schwartz, London's Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, affirmed that there is 'more to do.' 'As the criminal demand for high-value mobile phones continues to grow globally, the Mayor and I are clear that companies must go further and faster to make it harder for stolen phones to be sold on, repurposed and re-used illegally,' she said. 'We'll continue to work with leading mobile phone companies, the Home Secretary and Met leaders to find innovative solutions to end the scourge of mobile phone crime. 'The success in tackling phone thefts comes after the Met moved out of special measures last month, following major improvements in many areas of service to London. 'These include responding more quickly to emergencies and strengthening neighbourhood policing to better respond to communities' concerns, including tackling theft and robberies. 'The Met is urging anyone who has lost or had stolen a phone to use the national mobile phone register so recovered handsets can be restored, via The Police National Mobile Property Register.'
