EXCLUSIVE Vogue Williams admits suffering from 'mum guilt' on special Q&A episode of the Mail's The Life of Bryony podcast
On a special bonus episode of 'The Life of Bryony podcast', model and TV presenter Vogue Williams answered viewers' questions on motherhood and toxic friendships. Debating the issues with Mail columnist Bryony Gordon, Vogue, 39, admitted she suffers from 'mum guilt' due to her busy celebrity lifestyle. Vogue married Made in Chelsea star Spencer Matthews in 2018, and they have three children together, Theodore, Gigi, and Otto. The TV presenter remarked that many mums put too much pressure on themselves to 'do and be everything'. 'I suffer from mum guilt all the time', Vogue admitted. 'I feel guilty when I am working, and I feel guilty when I am with my kids. I worry when I spend more time with one of them and not the others. 'I spend a lot of time with Theodore and Gigi because I take them places – so I have to create time to spend with Otto on his own. 'I think as women we put so much pressure on ourselves to be able to do and be everything. Going out there and working should be great for your children to see. 'Whether you're a working mum or staying at home, I think you're always going to feel some level of guilt. When realistically, you can't do it all.' Podcast host Bryony said that feeling of guilt is a generational problem, with women of a certain age raised under the false premise that they could 'have it all'. She said: 'Women of our generation were brought up with that notion – that you can have it all. 'Even the question itself – you see these high-profile women always get asked that question. No one is asking that question of men. 'I don't want to have it all – I don't need to be everything to everyone.' 'Everyone just has to accept that sometimes, laundry is a nightmare, and we might forget to reply to an email or several.' Vogue jokingly responded: 'I have 364 unread WhatsApps – It's terrible!' Mum guilt? I refuse to feel bad about everything
Have you come across the phrase 'dad guilt?' Thought not. As my husband replied, when I asked him: 'What? I've never heard of it.' But then we talked and, turns out, he feels just as guilty as any other parent. Right at that moment, in fact, he was feeling guilty because our five-month-old son had woken from his nap and started grizzling, which he was ignoring in the hopes that the baby might settle himself again (good luck). Mum guilt, though? It's a thing. Books written, research done, endless Mumsnet threads, famous women from Rihanna to the Princess of Wales discussing their own. Let's be honest, after love — in fact, maybe more so than love — it's the emotion most closely associated with
