Ottawa alcohol issue, Leipsic renewal levy pass in Putnam County
May 6—OTTAWA — The two local issues on the ballot passed in Putnam County on Tuesday, according to unofficial results from the Putnam County Board of Elections.
More than 65 percent of voters in Ottawa approved of an ordinance to allow the sale of beer and intoxicating liquor in downtown Ottawa.
Ottawa resident John Moore, 89, was one that voted against the sale of beer seven days a week.
"I just don't like it," he said.
In Leipsic, nearly 80 percent of voters approved a 0.5% income tax renewal. It's earmarked for the retirement of debt of reservoir for municipal water supply and purchase and cleanup of blighted properties.
There were 1,991 Election Day and absentee ballots cast out of 24,101 voters, resulting in a 8.26 percent voter turnout in Putnam County, according to the bard of elections.
There were 1,560 voters at the polls on Election Day, and 431 absentee ballots were cast, meaning 78.35 percent were present during Election Day and 21.65 percent cast their votes ahead of time.
