Taylor Swift draws strong reaction from music icon Carole King after buying back masters in $360million deal

One of Taylor Swift 's musical inspirations has reacted to the pop star reclaiming her music empire. After the 35-year-old Eras Tour artist announced that she has bought her master recordings for around $360 million, Carole King sent her an encouraging message. The 83-year-old icon — who Swift inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2021 — reposted the announcement via Instagram Stories, and added the note, 'You continue to inspire!' The now-expired post also featured a string of emojis, including a pink heart and music notes. Swift celebrated the milestone achievement by stepping out for dinner with Selena Gomez in New York City on Saturday night. After the 35-year-old Eras artist announced that she has bought her master recordings for around $360 million, King sent her an encouraging message The Bad Blood hitmaker has previously opened up about how King's music has inspired her. Before introducing the Tapestry songstress at the 2021 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, she said could not 'remember a time when I didn't know Carole King's music.' The Pennsylvania native shared at the time, 'I was raised by two of her biggest fans, who taught me the basic truths of life as they saw it: That you should treat people the way you want to be treated, that you must believe you can achieve whatever you want to in life, and that Carole King is the greatest songwriter of all time.' She added elsewhere in the monologue, 'Carole taught artists like me that telling your own story is worth the work and struggle it takes to earn the opportunity for your story to be heard.' Along with her presenting duties, Swift performed a cover of King's co-written hit Will You Love Me Tomorrow, which reportedly brought King to tears. The 1960 track was originally recorded by The Shirelles and co-written by the inductee. During her induction speech, the musician thanked the 22 singer for her contributions to music and acknowledged her for 'carrying the torch forward' in pop songwriting. It came after King presented Swift with the Artist of the Decade Award at the American Music Awards in 2019. Billboard reported that Swift spent near $360 million to buy back her music catalog from Shamrock Capital after 'bully' Scooter Braun sold her masters to the private equity firm in 2020 (a year after buying them from Big Machine). 'I almost stopped thinking it could ever happen, after 20 years of having the carrot dangled and then yanked away,' Taylor wrote on her website on Friday. She continued, 'But that's all in the past now. I've been bursting into tears of joy at random intervals ever since I found that this is really happening. I really get to say those words. All of the music I've ever made… now belongs… to me.' Her Instagram post teasing the full statement about the masters read, 'You belong with me. Letter on my site :).' It was accompanied by several pictures of her in a simple pale blue sweater and light wash jeans while posing and smiling with six of her records.

Queen's Brian May and Roger Taylor are awarded the 2025 Polar Music Prize by Sweden's King Carl Gustaf

Brian May and Roger Taylor of Queen were awarded the 2025 Polar Music Prize by Sweden 's King Carl Gustaf on Tuesday. Attending the Polar Music Prize gala at the Grand Hotel in Stockholm, the rockers were recognised for the entirety their career. Speaking on stage, Brian, 77, said: 'In this special moment, I contemplate how that younger Brian May in 1974 would have felt if he knew that we would be living this kind of dream 50 years in the future.' Roger, 75, added: 'When we started our band…we had ambitions, but never dreamed of the journey that was to follow. 'We were fortunate in the fact that our four wildly different personalities came together to achieve a wonderful chemistry.' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. He continued: 'The Polar Music Prize is exceptional in the fact that unlike other awards it recognises the entirety of an artiste's career. 'What an honour to be included in the glittering cavalcade of previous laureates. True Olympian company indeed. We are so proud to be the recipients of this incredibly prestigious award.' Roger was joined on the red carpet by his wife Sarina while Brian was joined by his wife Anita Dobson. During the event Adam Lambert performed a number of Queen hits, including Who Wants to Live Forever, and Another One Bites the Dust. Last month, Brian looked the picture of health as he took to the stage at the Coachella festival, in Indio, California in the wake of his stroke. The Queen legend revealed he had been rushed to hospital following the medical emergency back in September. But he was on fine form as he posed with Benson Boone, 22, after the pair had performed an epic version of Bohemian Rhapsody together. Dressed in a patchwork cream shirt and distressed grey jeans, Brian was in great spirits after joining the former American Idol star as a special guest during his set at the annual music and arts festival held at the Empire Polo Club. After merging on the stage for his guitar solo during Bohemian Rhapsody, Brian stayed to duet with jumpsuit-clad Benson on his 2024 breakthrough single Beautiful Things. The pair certainly appeared to have hit it off as they happily chatted backstage before snapping photos together. Earlier in the day, Brian dropped a hint about the duo's collaboration as he shared a snap of Instagram of himself travelling to Coachella on a plane with Benson. He teasingly penned: 'Look who I bumped into – on the way to the fabled Palm Springs … Maybe something will happen ?!' In another selfie with the performer, the Will Will Rock You hitmaker remarked: 'Do we look happy ? !!! Gonna treasure this moment on the plane with @bensonboone – a truly golden 22 year old prodigy. I'm proud and happy to say we are now officially pals.' It comes after Brian's wife Anita Dobson recently issued a health update about him on Good Morning Britain after he suffered a stroke. A legendary musician, astrophysicist and animal rights campaigner, Brian had previously shared in a video posted online that he had suffered a 'minor stroke'. Brian was on fine form as he posed with Benson Boone, 22, after the pair had performed an epic version of Bohemian Rhapsody together On Good Morning Britain, Brian's wife and EastEnders icon Anita, 75, chatted with hosts Ed Balls, 58, and Charlotte Hawkins, 49, and provided an update on how he was doing. Charlotte asked: 'How is Sir Brian doing, we should ask of course as he hadn't been well had he?' 'He's very well now. I'm very happy to say, thank you both for asking,' Anita replied. 'He's very well now, he's back to his old self!'

Ramshackle Canonbury studio where Dire Straits and The Police recorded set for conversion into house

With its narrow, ramshackle façade, remarkable mainly for its rundown appearance in the increasingly well-heeled neighbourhood of Newington Green, you would never guess that some of the top tracks of the 20th century were recorded at 2a Grosvenor Avenue. But originally built as a recording studio in 1970, the building was where everyone from Squeeze and Elvis Costello to The Damned and Sham 69 went to record. Dire Straits recorded the demo for Sultans of Swing at Pathway Studios in 1977, with The Police laying down their debut single, Fall Out there in the same year. John Cleese even recorded voiceovers for business training films there in the early Eighties. There was a studio and control room on the ground floor with rickety old stairs leading to an office on the second level. Lee Thompson from Madness recalled that 'it was just down a cobbled back alley. Unassuming, nothing flash, nothing big; just an oversized garage with a couple of speakers and soundproofed rooms. It was very rough and ready.' Having closed and fallen into disrepair, the dilapidated studio was converted into two apartments in 2004. Now the skinny building has been snapped up by Nathan Kinder – ex-Traitors star and founder of his eponymous property consultancy – for £400,000 with plans to turn it into a one-bedroom home. 'I'm excited to have this property on the books and will try to preserve the studio's personality,' said Kinder. 'It's home to a lot of legendary recordings and I hope to do it justice, making it a stylish and comfortable one-bedroom home.' Celebrating the property and its location, Kinder's planned refurbishment will include retaining and restoring the original brickwork, adding another floor – subject to planning permission – and refreshing the interiors. He said: 'The property currently needs a lot of work. But after we've refurbished it, it could be sold for £500,000. 'If we add the extra floor – a desirable trait in the London market – we could even increase its value by another £150,000.' It's most recent inhabitant was indie musician Jamie Perrett, former Babyshambles bandmate of Pete Doherty, who moved on from the live-work space in April this year. He closed out his time at the studio with a poignant Instagram post: 'It's with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to Pathway Studios, our musical home (and home for some) for the last 16 years! So many wonderful memories of the musical kind from thousands of hours rehearsals, recording and writing. It's also good to move on. Looking forward to the next adventure!' Legendary ‘70s Rocker, 75, Celebrates 47th Anniversary of Beloved Hit Song

One of the most distinct bands to come out of the '70s and '80s was Dire Straits. The band had an incredibly unique sound, propelling them into the history books of rock music. Albums like their self titled debut, and their commercial smash hit "Brothers in Arms," which is one of the ten best-selling albums in UK history. The band have created countless hits, the two most notable being "Money For Nothing," and "Sultans of Swing." The latter song was their first big hit, propelled by the vocals and unique guitar playing of Mark Knopfler. Knopfler has been the driving force of the band's sound, and his unique finger-style guitar technique has provided his playing an unmistakable sound. "Sultans of Swing" is an instantly recognizable, classic song because of Knopfler, so of course, he deserves to celebrate the song's anniversary. The song is incredibly important in rock history, and fans recognized this in the comments. "We just do not get stuff like this anymore. Incredible." "What a song." "A glorious masterpiece." It's safe to say that the song has stood the test of time. We'll all be rocking out to this classic for many years to come. 🎬SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox🎬
