Tesla recalls more than 46,000 Cybertrucks because trim panel can fall off

Tesla is recalling 46,096 Cybertruck vehicles because of a cosmetic issue that could turn into a road hazard. In a regulatory filing this week, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the electric automaker reported that a stainless-steel exterior trim panel, otherwise known as a "cant rail," can detach and fall off the vehicle, posing a risk to other drivers. Drivers may hear a noise inside the car before the rail panel detaches from the vehicle, or possibly see the panel "coming loose or separating from the vehicle," recall documents state. Tesla first became aware of the issue in January "as part of routine monitoring of field repairs," according to the recall notice. It is not aware of any collisions, injuries or fatalities related to the condition. The recall affects all 2024 and 2025 Cybertruck vehicles manufactured from Nov. 13, 2023, to Feb. 27, 2025. To repair the problem, Tesla will replace the problematic cant rail panel for free. Owner notification letters will be mailed on May 19. Owners of affected Cybertrucks may contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752. Tesla's number for this recall is SB-25-10-001. Cybertruck drivers may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 (TTY 888-275-9171) or go to NHTSA's number for the recall is 25V-170. This is Tesla's third recall of 2025. It follows a major recall in December involving more than 2 million Tesla vehicles across its model lineup to fix a defective Autopilot system. U.S. regulators in January opened an investigation into 2.6 million Teslas after reports of crashes involving use of the company's autonomous driving technology, which allows drivers to use a phone app to remotely command their vehicle to return to them or move to another location. The Cybertruck recall highlights what has been a rough period for Tesla. CEO Elon Musk's close ties to the Trump administration in helping lead the Department of Government Efficiency has caused a backlash, including attacks on Tesla vehicles and dealerships. Measures of Tesla's brand popularity show the automaker taking a hit , while the company's sales fell in 2024 for the first since since 2015. Tesla stock doubled in value in the weeks after Trump's election but has since shed all those gains and this year has tumbled 41%, prompting expressions of concern from Wall Street analysts. "The violence at Tesla dealers, cars being keyed in parking lots, social movements against Musk around the globe ... have all created a massive overhang for Tesla's stock," said Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives in a research note. The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Tesla recalls more than 376,000 vehicles over potential loss of steering power

Tesla is recalling more than 376,000 vehicles because a possible loss of power steering that requires greater effort from the driver to steer, increasing the risk of a crash. The electric car maker reported in a regulatory filing last week that in vehicles equipped with electronic power-assisted steering (EPAS) an "overvoltage breakdown" will overstress motor drive components on the printed circuit board (PCB), causing a loss of power steering and requiring increased manual steering effort from the driver, raising the risk of a crash, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said. In the event of overstress, a visual alert will appear in the vehicle's user interface (UI) that reads, "Steering assist reduced. Steering may require increased effort," recall documents state. If the overstress occurs "when the vehicle is traveling at more than 0 MPH, the same visual alert will appear on the UI in advance of the loss of EPAS once the vehicle reaches 0 MPH," the company states in the recall. Tesla is not aware of any collisions, injuries or fatalities related to the condition, according to recall documents. The recall affects certain 2023 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles operating software prior to 2023.38.4. To fix the problem, Tesla released a free software update. Notification letters are to be mailed to owners of affected cars on March 25, 2025. Owners may contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752. Tesla's number for this recall is SB-25-00-004. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or go to NHTSA's number for the recall is 25V-092. This is Tesla's second recall of 2025. Both follow a major recall in December involving more than 2 million Tesla vehicles across its model lineup to fix a defective Autopilot system. U.S. regulators in January opened an investigation into 2.6 million Teslas after reports of crashes involving the use of the company's autonomous driving technology that allows drivers to remotely command their vehicle to return to them, or move to another location, using a phone app.

168,000 Toyota Sienna minivans recalled: Here's why, affected models

Not long after recalling more than 106,000 Tacoma trucks for potential brake problems, Toyota announced a noncompliance recall for nearly 168,000 Sienna minivans because bolts for the seat backs may not be tightened properly. "The bolts connecting the split 60/40 third-row seat backs to the recliner assemblies may not have been tightened to specification," Toyota said in a release last week, "causing the subject vehicles to not meet certain safety standards. "A seat back in this condition may not perform as intended, leading to an increased risk of injury to a seated occupant." According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 167,802 minivans are potentially affected. The recall applies to certain 2021-2025 Toyota Sienna Hybrid vehicles in North America, Asia, and other regions and countries. You can check to see if your vehicle is subject to any recalls — and see safety ratings, investigations and complaints about the model — by looking it up with your VIN or year and model at The NHTSA says owner notification letters are expected to go out on March 31, and Toyota said customers should be notified by mid-April. Toyota dealers will tighten these bolts to proper specifications free of charge. For additional questions, customers can contact the Toyota Brand Engagement Center at 1-800-331-4331.
