Police detain social media influencer for sending obscene pictures to teenager

KUALA LUMPUR, May 23 — A social media influencer has been remanded for four days starting yesterday to assist in an investigation regarding allegations of sending obscene pictures to a teenage girl recently. Gombak District Police Chief ACP Noor Ariffin Mohamad Nasir said the investigation into the man is being conducted under Section 15(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017. 'The suspect was arrested on Thursday,' he said when contacted by Bernama yesterday. Earlier, singer and social media influencer Caprice revealed several obscene picture messages allegedly sent by the influencer to an underaged teenager. Through several Instagram Story posts, Caprice informed that he was contacted by the teenager's mother, who sought his help after her daughter allegedly became a victim of sexual harassment. The shared screenshots included messages and inappropriate pictures sent by the individual to the teenager. — Bernama

A toy factory owner in China and 12 of his workers have stoked controversy after being convicted of 'selling obscene items'. Advertisement The boss and staff concerned were handed sentences of up to four years and nine months in prison for producing and selling the animation character models. It marks the first time that animation models have been classified as obscene items in a criminal case. Xu, the owner of a plastic manufacturing factory in Guangdong province, southern China, hired several workers to produce the models and sold them on the online shopping platform Taobao. Taobao is owned by the Alibaba Group, which also owns South China Morning Post. The dolls feature removable lingerie which exposed 'simplified' sensitive areas.
