Official: Referee appointed for decisive Inter vs Barcelona semifinal
Szymon Marciniak is the referee appointed for Tuesday's Champions League semifinal second leg between Inter and Barcelona at San Siro. Polish official Marciniak was appointed by UEFA to referee Tuesday's second leg of the Champions League semifinal between Inter and Barcelona. Marciniak's assistants will be his compatriots Tomasz Listkiewicz and Adam Kupsik. The fourth official is Paweł Raczkowski, also from Poland. The VAR referees are the Dutchmen Dennis Higler and Pol van Boekel (Assistant Video Assistant Referee). Marciniak has refereed nine Inter matches in his career, and the Nerazzurri have won only twice, drawn three times, and suffered four defeats. The last time Marciniak officiated an Inter game was in 2024, when the Nerazzurri were eliminated on penalties by Atletico Madrid in the Champions League Round of 16. The Polish official was also the referee of the 2023 Champions League Final, which Inter lost 1-0 against Manchester City. The 44-year-old official has already taken charge of two games between Inter and Barcelona: a 1-1 draw at San Siro in the Champions League group phase in 2018-19 and a 3-3 draw at Nou Camp in 2022-23, also in the Champions League group phase.

Ancelotti-favourite Real Madrid star will start vs Barcelona after overcoming injury
Real Madrid will lock horns with Barcelona tomorrow night in Seville with the Copa del Rey trophy on the line. Having been beaten by the Blaugrana twice already this season, Carlo Ancelotti & co. will be eager to exact a measure of revenge and get their hands on a third trophy this season. Boost for Real Madrid as Ferland Mendy set to start Heading into the game, Real Madrid have been handed a boost as MARCA reports that Ferland Mendy will start at left-back in Saturday's Copa del Rey final against Barcelona. Advertisement The French left-back has proven in recent training sessions that he has fully recovered from the injury sustained in the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16 against Atletico Madrid. Following the match against Getafe, Mendy participated in the last two training sessions without issue, confirming his fitness. As a result, manager Ancelotti has opted to include him in the starting eleven for the high-stakes clash at Estadio de La Cartuja. Set to start vs Barcelona. (Photo by) Ancelotti values Mendy's experience in major fixtures over what Fran Garcia might bring in what would be his first significant appearance as a starter. Advertisement Throughout the season, the Italian coach has consistently shown greater trust in Mendy than in the academy product. The initial plan had been to deploy Eduardo Camavinga at left-back. However, the injury he suffered in Getafe has ruled him out for the final and the remainder of the season. While Ancelotti considered his options, Mendy's strong return in training has made him the clear choice. Meanwhile, Federico Valverde is set to start at right-back, with Antonio Rudiger and Raul Asensio expected to form the central defensive pairing. The main tactical uncertainty lies in whether Ancelotti will stick with his usual setup, typically involving four attacking players, or opt for a more conservative approach with four midfielders.

Daniel Maldini gets first Italy start, 8314 days after Paolo's last game
Daniel Maldini gets his first start in the Italy jersey, 8,314 days after his father Paolo's final appearance for the Azzurri. The Nations League quarter-final with Germany kicks off at the Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund at 19.45 GMT. You can follow all the build-up and action as it happens on the Liveblog. Among the changes from the first leg at San Siro, which ended 2-1 to Germany, Luciano Spalletti has brought Maldini into the starting XI. The 23-year-old Atalanta talent earns his fourth cap at senior level, but it is the first from the starting XI. His father Paolo had held the record for many years of most senior caps for Italy, amassing 126 over his career. The debut for the defender was on March 31, 1988 in a 1-1 friendly match against Yugoslavia. His final appearance was 14 years later, in the 2002 World Cup Round of 16 defeat to South Korea. That was on June 18, 2002, so almost 23 years later there is a Maldini in the starting line-up for Italy again. Cesare Maldini, who was Paolo's father and Daniel's grandfather, also had 14 caps from January 1960 to October 1963. He was above all a coach of the Italy squad, from January 1997 to July 1998.

2024/2025 UEFA Europa League: Man United to Host Real Sociedad in R. of 16
Tonight, Manchester United will host La Liga side Real Sociedad at Old Trafford in the second leg of the 2024-2025 UEFA Europa League Round of 16. The first leg between Manchester United and Real Sociedad ended in a 1-1 draw last Thursday at the Reale Arena. So, United need a win by any margin or a goalless draw at home to secure qualification for the next round. Under head coach Rúben Amorim, Manchester United is determined to continue their Europa League journey, as it remains the only chance to win silverware this season and avoid a trophyless campaign. United has struggled this season, currently sitting in 14th place in the Premier League standings. They were also eliminated early from the FA Cup after a penalty shootout loss to Fulham (4-3), draws, and suffering 12 losses.

Lazio vs Viktoria Plzen Team News & Probable Lineups
After returning from the Czech Republic with a valuable advantage, Lazio will be looking to finish the job when they host Viktoria Plzen in the second leg of the Europa League Round of 16. The match will take place at the Stadio Olimpico. It kicks off on Thursday, 18:45 local time. Marco Baroni will have to do without the suspended Nicolo Rovella and Samuel Gigot who saw red in the first leg, in addition to the injured Elseid Hysaj. The big news for the Biancocelesti is Taty Castellanos' much-anticipated return. The Argentine is tipped to lead the line from the start, supported by Gustav Isaksen, Pedro and Mattia Zaccagni, while Boulaye Dia starts on the bench. In the middle of the park, Matias Vecino is the ultimate candidate to join Matteo Guendouzi, as Fisayo Dele-Bashiru is not at his optimal condition, while Reda Belahyane isn't even on the Europa League list. Nuno Tavares has recovered from a slight knock so he'll fill in at the back alongside Adam Marusic, Patric and Alessio Romagnoli, while Mario Gila remains a potential option. The goalkeeper's role remains anyone's guess, but Ivan Provedel could have the upper hand over Christos Mandas thanks to his much-improved displays in recent weeks. Lazio (4-2-3-1): Provedel; Marusic, Patric, Romagnoli, Tavares; Vecino, Guendouzi; Isaksen, Pedro, Zaccagni; Castellanos Head coach Miroslav Koubek is once again without his injured left-back Cheick Souare and young striker Christophe Kabongo. Moreover, Daniel Vasulin and Milan Havel could miss the action due to illness. Reported Lazio transfer target Rafiu Durosinmi will spearhead the charge after scoring in the first leg, with Pavl Sulc and Matej Vydra acting as his support crew. Amar Memic and Cadu should start in the wingback roles, while Lukas Cerv and Lukas Kalvach will operate in the middle of the park. Viktoria Plzen (3-4-2-1): Jedlicka; Dweh, Markovic, Jemelka; Memic, Cerv, Kalvach, Cadu; Vydra, Sulc; Durosinmi
