Housing developer targets Poland, asks for zone change
POLAND TWP., Ohio (WKBN) — Developers want to build affordable housing units in Poland Township.
The Villages of Poland is a proposed development along Center Road that would provide 60 units for families and individuals who meet specific income qualifications within the median income range in Mahoning County, according to the developer Chillicothe-based Frontier Community Services.
The housing project would include a community building, shelter house, dog park and playground.
The project is still in the development phase and movement on the plans won't go forward until at least May 2025, according to Frontier.
'We are optimistic about its potential to address a critical need in the area,' said Keegan Booth, Housing Development and Management Services Director.
A zoning change request for the project was submitted to Poland Township officials on Feb. 12 asking for the area to be changed from Town Center (TC), Residence (R-2), Estate (E) to Residence (R-3). R-3 zoning would allow for multiple-family residential development.
'As it stands right now, hypothetical's one thing,' Poland Township Trustee Eric Ungaro said. 'It's not like they're just walking into a property that's already zoned that.'
