Kona man charged with connection to parking scam
KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii (KHON2) — Hawaiʻi Island authorities have arrested and charged a Kona man in connection with a series of parking scams, including a 'barnacle' device earlier this week.
The 29-year-old man was arrested following an investigation into two reports of parking enforcement equipment known as a 'barnacle' were placed on the windshields of parked vehicles on Napoʻopoʻo Road in Captain Cook.

The device, similar to a briefcase, suctions to a vehicle's windshield and cannot be removed until payment is made.
He was found to be responsible for the scams, Big Isle authorities said. The man was arrested on May 27 and charged with fraud, third-degree theft, second-degree criminal tampering and bail was set at $11,600. The man posted bail, has been released from custody and is due back in court on June 26.
