Part of I-135 south in Wichita will close for construction this weekend. Here is what to know
Construction will close part of I-135 south in Wichita from Saturday morning to Sunday afternoon, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation. Starting at 5 a.m. Saturday, southbound I-135 from K-254 to just past K-96 will close for paving and patching. The ramps from westbound K-96 and K-254 to southbound I-135, along with the exit loop ramp to North Broadway from southbound I-235, also will be closed. The work should be completed by Sunday afternoon. KDOT had also anticipated doing work on the northbound lanes in that area but, because of the possible rain, will instead do that work next weekend. Southbound I-135 in that area is also expected to have closures next weekend, KDOT said.

Construction season underway in Timmins
Road work underway in the City of Timmins on June 2, 2025. (Lydia Chubak/CTV News Northern Ontario) 'Potholes are a big problem,' said Scott Tam, Timmins' director of growth and infrastructure. Tam recommended city council commit $5 million annually for the next three years to 'shave and pave' municipal roads. Work is currently underway on Rae Street North. Thanks to securing a better rate from the contractor, the city is doubling the number of kilometres it will repave over the next three years. 'With the pricing we got, we realize that we have an opportunity to add more,' said Tam. 'We're still planning on doing about 12 to 14 kilometres of paving this year, so we're still finalizing a little bit more to the list that's out there now so we can really get ahead of it,' he added. Dozens of roads will undergo repairs, and the $9.3-million list of projects is available on the city's website. This summer and fall, the Connecting Link project will focus on Highway 101 East, covering a long stretch from Crawford Street to the Porcupine River Bridge. Current priorities include asphalt grinding and a new water main. ROAD WORK TIMMINS Road work underway in the City of Timmins on June 2, 2025. (Lydia Chubak/CTV News Northern Ontario) 'We figured we'd give a break on the rest of the downtown core… so we just wanted to make sure we had all that planned out and this was the next segment that we designed and ready to go,' said Tam. City council approved the work in March at a cost of $21.7 million. Due to the project's scope – including full asphalt restoration, new lights and a new sidewalk on the north side – the work will take two years to complete.

Pittsburgh-area representative stands in hole, halting construction project to get city's attention
Call him a pothole politician or a local lawmaker standing on principle. On Thursday, a state representative stood in a hole for more than five hours, trying to force construction crews to call 911 and alert city officials. He said it was all because of a paving mishap. State rep wants road paved Forget the yellow safety vest or the hard hat. Rep. Joe McAndrew is donning a shirt and tie, trying to prove a point. McAndrew says the city of Pittsburgh agreed to pave Verona Boulevard from Lincoln Avenue to the Penn Hills border. But when he stopped by the project, he said he noticed the hired paving crew stopped short, failing to honor the agreement between his office and city leaders. So, he did what felt right, planting his dress shoes in the unpaved hole. (Photo: KDKA) "The city of Pittsburgh officials continued to ignore my pleas to have the road continued to be paved to the Penn Hills border to the point where I ended up having to go into the way of the construction vehicles to have the city of Pittsburgh officials come and speak to me about this issue and this mishap," he said. Crews stop work His performance worked. It forced the crews to stop. Police officers started showing up, and he says the city caught wind. "They have communicated to me that they were in error on where they were stopping this road today and over the next several weeks, they do plan to finish this road in its entirety," McAndrew said. That means the long-neglected stretch between Penn Hills and the city, from Mt. Carmel Road to Lincoln Avenue, will soon see fresh blacktop. "But it took me getting into a hole and having this argument with them in order to get it done for the people of our community and for the people of Lincoln Park and for the people of Penn Hills," McAndrew said. Olga George, press secretary for the mayor's office, said there appeared to be some "miscommunication" about the project. "While the scope of repaving has now been resolved, additional Council approval is required to complete the repaving of a portion of the road which is currently paved in brick," George's statement said. Work has been stopped to allow the city to get the council's approval to replace the brick portion of the street, allowing the project "to move forward in a complete and coordinated manner, rather than in two separate phases."
