Aussies shocked to learn what cult-favourite chip actually is

A shopper's discovery about a common supermarket snack has left many Aussies stunned by the little-known fact. TikTok user, Nia, took to the platform recently to share her revelation about the cult-favourite item, Harvest Snaps Baked Pea Crisps. She said she has loved the chip, sold in Woolies and Coles, for 'years' and always thought it was just dehydrated peas, given the pealike shape. However, she just realised what the savoury snack is actually made of. 'I'm about to be called the dumbest woman alive, but these yummy snacks I've been eating for years, these gorgeous green bean pea goodness, aren't dehydrated peas,' she revealed. 'They're just shaped as peas. Like, come on, is that not an indication that it's a dried pea?' 'Does this not look like a dried pea?' she continued, holding up one of the baked crisps. She later tagged the Harvest Snaps brand account and asked them: 'How many times a day do you get people realising this because you had me duped for years that these were dehydrated green peas?' Her video has since been viewed over 360,000 times and was flooded with responses from people who were equally as shocked by the bombshell. 'I consider myself to be relatively intelligent, and I too just thought they were dehydrated peas for soooo long,' one user admitted. 'HUH, I thought I was eating VEGETABLES,' another snack-lover confessed. 'Wait … are they not? I totally thought so too,' yet another replied. has contacted Harvest Snaps for comment. The brand has since weighed in, setting the record straight and confirming Nia's thoughts in the comments section. 'We start with whole green peas (we mill it in house), then we form them into fun pod shapes and bake it for the perfect crunch. You'll find that veggies are listed as our very first ingredient,' a comment from Harvest Snap's TikTok account read. The ingredients indicate that the snack is made of 68 per cent Green Peas and also includes rice, seasoning, sugar, maltodextrin, yeast extract, and vegetable oil, among other things. The shocked comments continued to roll in, with people saying they felt deceived by the product's design. 'I sent these with my kids to school smug thinking I had cracked some smug healthy parent code,' one person wrote. 'Instead I was just sending them with chips, like damn Pringles.' However, others were stumped as to how people could be so mistaken, saying it was 'obvious' they weren't just peas. 'Girl, have you ever had fresh peas before? They look nothing like that,' one claimed. 'It hadn't even occurred to me people might think these are dried pea pods, not pea pod-shaped chips,' a second wrote. 'Babe, you can see the seam on the end where it's come out of the machine,' someone else pointed out. Another user believed that the move was intentional from the brand and was designed so that people would make the healthy connotation. 'To be fair, they did shape them like that in the hopes you wouldn't think much further,' one user claimed. Someone else pointed out that the packet literally has a pea pod on the front, guiding users to assume they were peas.
