Cats become Britain's favourite pet as Gen Z copy Taylor Swift

Dogs have always held a special place in Britain's heart. Few countries in the world can claim to love (and pamper) their pooches more than we do. Yet our national affection appears to be shifting towards cats, according to the latest sales data from one of ­Britain's biggest pet care retailers. Jollyes, which has more than 100 UK stores, says it is seeing a rapid ­increase in cat-related purchases and predicts that at the present rate of growth, the number of cats in Britain will overtake the number of dogs within two years. The chain says that transactions on its cat ranges are now nearly a third higher than its dog ranges, with demand taking off about a year and a half ago. • From
