Play area opened with 'fastest zip wire in Derby'
A new play area designed with the help of residents has thrown open its gates at a Derby park. An open day was held to celebrate the new facility for youngsters at Brunswood Park in Spondon on Saturday. Features include a climbing frame and slide, roundabout, swings, and "the fastest zip wire in Derby", according to Derby City Council. A spokesperson for the council thanked "everyone who shared ideas and helped shape" the new "wonderful space". More than £72,000 was given to Spondon from a developer to improve parks in the area, after homes were built on the former Technograv factory site in Nottingham Road, while Friends of Spondon Parks raised a further £20,000 to redevelop the park. English campsite named best farm attraction in the UK reveals new kid's playground and glamping
AN English campsite named the best farm attraction in the UK has opened a new play area and glamping site in time for the summer. William's Den in North Cave, East Yorkshire, has opened a new toddler zone which has natural, inclusive play tailored to small children and a new glamping site. 4 4 4 The new area at the National Farm Attractions Network winner for Small Farm Attraction of the Year, includes a 'Little Slide and Hut', which is a cosy timber hut with a gentle slide. There is also a 'Bouncing Flower', which is a springy ans cheerful flower that helps toddlers develop balance and coordination. The 'Toddler's Table' provides a great space for crafts, snack time or group play and the 'Mud Kitchen and Plant Box' encourages multi-sensory, messy play, as children can mix, pour and explore with their hands. For something a little more active, there is also a 'Totter Trail' and 'Totter Beam' - which is a series of balance beams, crawl spaces and hand ropes. Children can gently ride on the 'Swinging Horses' or climb up 'Hobbit Hill', too. The new play area has sound cushions and triangles to provoke tactile exploration. Each feature of the area has been carefully selected to support toddlers' physical, emotional and social growth. Whilst there, families can opt to stay in one of the attraction's new bell tents. There are six bell tents in total and they will be launched during the May half term. For a two night stay, each tent costs £355 for a maximum of four people. William's Den also has an 'Indoor Den', where children can climb, build, and play. When it comes to the outdoors, there are zip lines and woodland explorations, as well. Admission costs from £7.95 per adult and £11.95 per child using the play facilities. A huge London park with one of UK's best playgrounds recently welcomed the first herd of deer in years. Children's play area at Lake District tourist attraction could be expanded
AN existing children's play area could be extended near Keswick if the plans are approved by the Lake District National Park Authority. Christian Outdoor Pursuits Trust CIO has applied to make the changes to the site at Bassenfell Manor, Bassenthwaite, which is near to a junction on the A591 at Kilnhill. The full planning application is currently being considered after being submitted to the authority on Friday, May 9. According to the application form the site covers a total area of 160 square metres and the applicant said: 'We are looking to extend an existing children's play area already in place on our property. 'The intention of this development is to maintain an equivalent capacity of play equipment provision for resident guests while allowing us to decommission a number of deteriorating elements situated in now non-ideal locations.' The form adds that the expansion area is to include the following: Seven new elements supplied and installed by Kompan; An existing tube slide to be maintained in situ and incorporated into the new area; A triple segment climbing board element, approximately 3m long and 2m high, to be reinstalled in the new area. According to the form the work to make the changes is yet to start. The applicant said: 'The main building and grounds consists of a 19-bedroom former manor house being run as a holiday residential and outdoor activity venue. 'The centre caters to a mixture of independent self-managed groups, programmed school residentials and led holidays for adults throughout the year. 'The surrounding grounds include various items of play and outdoor activity equipment for use independently or as part of instructed activities. The proposed installation site is a small sloping grassed lawn within the main property grounds.'

Play area approved at beer garden A new play area has been approved at a city pub's beer gardens. Punch Pubs, which owns The Whittle in Stanground, has been granted approval by Peterborough City Council for a play area with a new 1.2m-high picket fence and soft flooring around the play equipment. The application stated: "The proposed external scheme will enhance the pub and improve the family experience with the inclusion of the new play area, creating a desirable family-friendly environment for the local community and passing trade to enjoy, year round." Although no public consultation was carried out, Punch Pubs said it was happy to speak to all neighbours and any other parties who wished to discuss the proposed plans.
