Reliance NU Energies secures 525 MW solar-plus-storage project in SJVN tender

New Delhi: Reliance NU Energies has secured the largest share in the Solar Energy Corporation of India ( SECI )-backed SJVN tender for an Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS)-connected Solar plus Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project, with a total allocation of 525 MW, according to a media release issued by the company. The allocation includes 350 MW of solar generation capacity and 175 MW/700 MWh of battery energy storage system capacity. The tariff for the project has been discovered at ₹3.33 per kWh for a 25-year period. The bidding was conducted under the build-own-operate (BOO) model and is part of a larger 1,200 MW solar and 600 MW/2,400 MWh BESS ISTS-connected project floated by SJVN, a public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Power. A total of 19 bidders participated in the auction, out of which 18 qualified for the e-reverse auction. The tender was oversubscribed by over four times. Reliance NU Energies, a subsidiary of Reliance Power, stated that the latest win brings its clean energy development pipeline to 2.5 GWp of solar and more than 2.5 GWh of battery storage capacity. The project will provide a minimum four-hour daily discharge to ensure dispatchable renewable power supply, particularly during peak demand periods. The power will be supplied to state distribution companies. 'This successful bid underscores Reliance Power's continued progress and commitment to becoming a leading player in India's renewable energy sector,' the company stated. Earlier, Reliance NU Suntech, a 100% subsidiary of Reliance NU Energies, had signed a 25-year power purchase agreement with SECI for a 930 MW solar and 465 MW/1860 MWh BESS project. That project, with a tariff of ₹3.53 per kWh and an investment of ₹10,000 crore, is set to be Asia's largest Solar + BESS installation. Reliance Power currently operates a 5,305 MW generation portfolio, which includes the 3,960 MW Sasan Ultra Mega Power Project.
