Free State police seek Grade 11 pupil kidnapped by ‘fake' cops

Free State police are searching for 19-year-old Kamogelo Baukudi, who was allegedly abducted by two men impersonating police officers. The men were driving a white Toyota Hilux with blue lights and a siren when they allegedly stopped Baukudi and a family friend, Daniel Malebatso. Baukudi was allegedly separated from Malebatso, and their cellphones were later found abandoned under a bridge. Free State police have launched a manhunt for 19-year-old Kamogelo Baukudi, who was allegedly abducted by two men who pretended to be police officers on Thursday. Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thabo Covane said the incident unfolded shortly after Baukudi, a Grade 11 pupil at Martie Du Plessis Special Needs School in Fichardt Park, was picked up as usual by a family friend, Daniel Malebatso. Covane said Baukudi was reportedly driving the Suzuki Ertiga when they left the school. While travelling along Vereeniging Drive in Ehrlich Park, a white Toyota Hilux GD-6 double cab fitted with blue lights and with a police siren blaring stopped them. 'Inside the Toyota Hilux, there were two unknown male persons, one wearing a police uniform and the other a blue tracksuit,' Covane said. 'According to the complainant [Malebatso], the suspects' bakkie was fitted with blue lights on the grill and what looked like a police radio inside.' Covane said the man wearing the police uniform accused Baukudi and Malebatso of being involved in drug transportation using the Suzuki Ertiga. He said the men ordered Malebatso to lead their convoy to Park Road police station, with Baukudi inside the vehicle with the men. However, during the journey on Vereeniging Drive, Malebatso lost sight of them. 'Daniel alleges that a truck went between the Suzuki he was driving and the Toyota Hilux, and he never saw it again,' Covane said. 'Daniel recalls that one of the suspects was speaking Sesotho fluently and even mentioned the name 'Thipe'.' The cellphones of both Baukudi and Malebatso were discovered abandoned under the Ferreira Road bridge. WATCH | Barefoot, injured, malnourished: Over 20 'kidnapped' men found in Centurion Police have since opened a case of kidnapping and impersonation of police officials at Park Road police station. Anyone with information or who might have seen the vehicles in Vereeniging Drive is urged to contact Captain Sabata Jafta Moseme on 082 5262 713. Alternatively, information can be sent anonymously via the MySAPS App or by calling the Crime Stop at 08600 10111.

Cops nab 4 for impersonating police in robberies in Selangor

Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan said they seized a Perodua Myvi, three mobile phones and clothing believed to have been used in the robberies. PETALING JAYA : Police have arrested four people on suspicion of impersonating policemen to commit robberies in five cases in Selangor, state police chief Hussein Omar Khan said today. He said the four men, aged 33 to 38, were arrested on Saturday, Sinar Harian reported. He said initial investigations showed that the four were involved in robberies in Dengkil, Bukit Puchong, Bukit Raja and Kajang. He added that the same group is believed to have been involved in a robbery in Semenyih, a video of which was shared widely on social media early this month. 'In the May 4 incident, five men impersonated policemen to rob a 55-year-old retiree and three family members at their home in Semenyih. 'Based on CCTV footage, the suspects were wearing face masks and police vests, and broke into the house to steal jewellery, two mobile phones and around RM500 in cash,' he said at a press conference. Hussein said police also seized a Perodua Myvi, three mobile phones and clothing believed to have been used in the robberies. He said three of the suspects had been remanded until tomorrow to aid in investigations, but one was freed on police bail on Sunday. He added that police are still on the lookout for the fifth suspect. According to Hussein, the case is being investigated under Section 395 of the Penal Code for gang robbery, which provides for up to 20 years' imprisonment and whipping. 'The case is also being investigated under Section 170 of the Penal Code for impersonating policemen, which provides for up to two years' imprisonment, a fine or both if convicted,' he said. Hussein reminded the public to watch out for robberies involving similar tactics, saying the suspects tricked their victims into thinking they were conducting inspections.

Man arrested for allegedly impersonating a police officer in Chelan County

A driver near Leavenworth called 911 on Thursday after a man in an unmarked Ford Crown Victoria allegedly tried to pull them over, acting as a police officer, the Washington State Patrol (WSP) said in a release. WSP says the man had red and blue lights mounted on his dashboard and allegedly tried to pull over the same driver a second time further down Highway 2 near Dryden. At around 7 p.m., a WSP trooper saw the car, which matched the description of the caller's report and had a temporary plate, the release said. Troopers pulled over and arrested 62-year-old Ronald Cowin from Spokane and charged him with criminal impersonation. In pictures posted by WSP, troopers found a rifle, handgun, walkie-talkie style radios, a high-visibility vest, and other items inside the Crown Victoria. The State Patrol advises that while rare, if you suspect that you're being pulled over by someone impersonating a police officer: Stay calm and do not try to flee from the vehicle attempting to pull you over. Put on your flashers and if possible, drive at or below the speed limit to a secure, public, and well-lit location. Call 911 immediately, report your location and concerns, describe the vehicle attempting to pull you over, and follow the directions of the 911 operator. Do not stop your vehicle or get out of your vehicle until the 911 operator can confirm you are being pulled over by a legitimate law enforcement officer. If the 911 operator is unable to confirm you are being pulled over by a legitimate law enforcement officer, stay on the line, ask for police assistance, and drive carefully to a safe location - like a local police department or fire station. If the 911 operator confirms the legitimacy of the vehicle attempting to stop you, pull over at a safe place and calmly explain the reasons for your earlier concerns to the law enforcement officer.
