Ford recalls more than a million vehicles for software glitch that makes rearview camera unreliable

WASHINGTON (AP) — Ford is recalling more than a million vehicles due to a software issue that can cause the rearview camera to malfunction, increasing the chance of an accident, government auto regulators said. The software error, which Ford reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration earlier this month, may cause the rearview camera image to delay, freeze or not display when the vehicle is in reverse. The problem will be fixed by a dealer or via an 'over-the-air' update at a later date. A preliminary letter notifying owners of the safety risk is expected to be mailed June 16, with a second letter to be sent once the update is available, expected sometime in the third quarter of 2025. The following Ford vehicles — a total of 1,075,299 — are included in the recall: 2021-2024 Bronco 2021-2024 Edge 2023-2024 Escape 2021-2024 F-150 2023-2024 F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, F-600 2022-2024 Expedition 2022-2025 Transit 2021-2023 Mach-E 2024 Ranger 2024 Mustang 2021-2023 Lincoln Nautilus 2022-2024 Navigator 2023-2024 Corsair Owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for the recall is 25S49. Owners may also call the NHTSA's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 (TTY 888-275-9171) or go to

Ford recalls one million vehicles over rearview camera malfunctions

Ford is recalling more than 1 million vehicles due to a software problem that can cause the rearview cameras to freeze or delay images while a driver is reversing. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in a notice that the error on some Ford vehicles poses crash risks as the backup camera may not accurately display images correctly while drivers are backing up. Ford said that no injuries have been reported in connection to the issue, but noted that it is "aware of one allegation of a minor crash resulting in property damage," according to the recall notice. The NHTSA notified Ford of the issue on January 17. Owners of affected vehicles will receive a letter in the mail about the issue by June 16, according to the notice. A second letter will be mailed out later this year with further information once a solution is made available. Ford said it is planning to update its vehicle software this year for free through its dealers or through remote updates. Owners with concerns can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. The recall number connected to the latest recall is 25549. The list of vehicles on the recall list are: Ford F-150 2021-2024 Ford Edge 2021-2024 Ford Bronco 2021-2024 Lincoln Nautilus 2021-2023 Ford Mustang Mach E 2021-2023 Ford Transit 2022-2025 Ford Expedition 2022-2024 Lincoln Navigator 2022-2024 Lincoln Corsair 2023-2024 Ford Escape 2023-2024 Ford F-350 SD 2023-2024 Ford F-250 SD 2023-2024 Ford F-450 SD 2023-2024 Ford F-550 SD 2023-2024 Ford F-600 SD 2023-2024 Ford Mustang 2024 Ford Ranger 2024 Ford has had several recalls this year. Volvo Cars recalls over 400,000 US vehicles over rearview camera issue, NHTSA says

May 7 (Reuters) - Swedish automaker Volvo Cars ( opens new tab is recalling 413,151 vehicles in the United States over an issue with the rearview camera, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said. The recall applies to a number of Volvo models including the 2021 to 2025 XC40, as the rearview camera image may not display when the vehicle is placed in reverse, increasing the risk of a crash. The remedy for the Volvo recall will be a software update conducted by a dealer or via over-the-air. The Volvo recall comes a week after peer and Swedish electric vehicle maker Polestar (A4N1y.F), opens new tab recalled over 27,000 Polestar 2 vehicles in the U.S. due to a similar issue. The Polestar 2, which is currently not available for orders in the U.S., was built on the same platform as some of Volvo's cars, stemming from a partnership between the automakers. Volvo Cars on Wednesday also said it would cut 5% of the workforce at its Charleston plant in South Carolina in the U.S. The company last month announced a restructuring of its American operations and a withdrawal of its earnings forecast due a hit from tariffs.
