BREAKING NEWS Mum and her 10-year-old son allegedly stabbed in horrific road rage attack in Wollongong
A woman will face court today after allegedly stabbing a young mother and her 10-year-old son in a violent roadside altercation in Wollongong.
According to police, a 27-year-old woman was driving with her two children, aged 10 and three on West Dapto Road, when they were allegedly forced to stop by another vehicle.
The driver of the second car, a 59-year-old woman known to the family, reportedly got out and approached their vehicle, sparking a heated confrontation.
The older woman allegedly pulled a knife and stabbed the young mother and her 10-year-old son.
Both victims suffered serious stab wounds and were treated on the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being airlifted to hospital.
Authorities confirmed that both remain in serious but stable condition.
The woman's three-year-old son, who was also in the car, escaped unharmed and is now in the care of a family member.
Lake Illawarra Police District officers established a crime scene and launched an immediate investigation.
At around 6.30pm police descended on a home in nearby Horsley, where they arrested the 59-year-old suspect.
She was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station and charged with two counts of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The accused was refused bail and is set to appear before Wollongong Local Court today.
