King Charles, Queen Camilla ride on horse-drawn carriage through Ottawa to Senate ahead of throne speech
The Latest
Today's main event may be the throne speech, but there will be a fair amount of royal pomp and ceremony beforehand.
King Charles and Queen Camilla will participate in a parade in a horse-drawn carriage in downtown Ottawa.
The King will then receive full military honours at the Senate: a royal salute, a guard of honour from the Royal Canadian Regiment, and an inspection of the guard.
Charles will then read the speech from the throne, making it the third time the monarch does so. His mother, Queen Elizabeth II, delivered the speech in Parliament in 1957 and 1977.
Prime Minister Mark Carney invited Charles to visit Canada to give the speech amid sovereignty threats from U.S. President Donald Trump.
