Celebrity sangoma Gogo Manzini dies in her sleep
Tyra Sindane, popularly known as Gogo Manzini, has died. The famous sangoma reportedly died at her home in Sandton on Thursday. Her family has asked for privacy and respect to navigate the difficult time. Celebrity traditional healer, transgender activist and businessperson Tyra Sindane, popularly known as Gogo Manzini, has died after a short illness. A family member confirmed to City Press on Friday that the sangoma died on Thursday afternoon in her sleep at home. The relative said she had a short undisclosed illness. 'It was just a short thing. In the morning when we wake up, you are okay. In the afternoon you are no more,' said the family member. A statement was also posted on Sindane's Instagram page to confirm the devastating news. Tyra was a cherished friend, colleague, family member, public figure and mom, whose presence touched the lives of many. Tyra will be remembered for her passion for healing others, unwavering kindness, dedication to her community, and the joy she brought to everyone around her. The family asked for privacy and respect as they mourn their loved one. 'Further information, including memorial details, will be shared in due course. We extend our deepest condolences to all who knew and loved Trya.' 'Rest in peace, love,' wrote her husband, Brian Sindane, on Instagram. Following her newly bought body and face, the sangoma and her husband were out and about enjoying industry events. Speaking to City Press early this year, Sindane happily shared that she had undergone multiple surgeries in Turkey in January, including a Brazilian butt lift, tummy tuck, fox eyes, liposuction, breast augmentation, and nose jobs. She shared that her husband supported her through the journey and the procedures, including their stay in Turkey which cost about R600 000. The bubbly Sindane, who had also undergone skin-lightening, shared then that keeping her skin light was costly because of the weekly drips and skin products. She said her dream was to look like a Korean woman and she was preparing to undergo more surgeries next year. Last month, Sindane's team, friends and family celebrated her in a luxurious soiree party in Sandton on her birthday. She always kept her age a secret, saying that she did not want people to know how old she was.

Sangoma implicated in toddler's murder makes U-turn on bail
The sangoma who was arrested in connection with the premeditated murder of two-year-old Kutlwano Shalaba has made an about-turn and wants to apply for bail. Sebokoana Khoanyana, 50, made a brief appearance on Thursday and his matter was postponed to June 25 for a formal bail application. Khoanyana appeared alongside Kutlwano's mother, Keneiwe Shalaba, 33, who is accused of lying about her son's disappearance in November 2024. Shalaba is also facing charges of premeditated murder. Khoanyana had initially requested that an attorney be made available so that he could plead guilty but was advised by the court that it was not the right time to plead. His lawyer, Gladmore Nyamande, said his client had a previous conviction of assault in 2019, which he believes was withdrawn. He was also convicted of possession of dagga but got a suspended sentence. Speaking to reporters shortly after the matter was postponed, Nyamande said: 'On his first appearance, he was not aware of his legal rights when he told the court that he wanted to plead guilty. 'According to his rights, the first thing he needs to do is to apply for bail and this matter will go further than the magistrate's court. We are not at the stage [of the trial] for him to plead guilty. He is flip-flopping; we don't know. When we come back, he might say he wants to abandon bail. 'On the day [of his first appearance] he just thought that by appearing and saying he wanted to plead, then the whole matter would be finished,' he said.
