We've had video game spoofs, big budget TV show and movie recreations, celebrity cameos, and of course people on Broadway in Nashville knowing nothing about football. I. But when did this creative arms race begin? Well, it all started with cupcakes. The first schedule release video was the 2016 Seahawks cupcake video, where they spoofed popular top-down cooking videos to bake cupcakes for all their matchups. It was this simple video that kicked off the trend of original creative schedule releases, and now every team does something, although some go a bit more all out than others.

Chargers troll Tomlin-led Steelers winning tradition in Minecraft schedule release video
The Steelers' winning traditions were recently blasted by the Los Angeles Chargers' schedule release video. In 2021, the Chargers released their PowerPoint-styled schedule reveal, mocking their opponents in hilarious fashion — and ever since then, Los Angeles has released these annually. The Chargers followed with anime-themed schedule reveals in 2022 and 2023, as well as a 2024 reveal focused on The Sims. Advertisement Los Angeles took a different route in 2025 — a Minecraft-themed schedule release to capitalize on the success of the hit movie adaptation that took April by storm. Complete with a chicken jockey movie reference, Sam Darnold leaving the Vikings for the Seahawks, and even acknowledging the recent George Pickens trade — the Chargers' release video spared no feelings, especially not those of HC Mike Tomlin and his standard of finishing above .500 every season. Chargers schedule release roasts '9-8' Steelers: The Steelers, who will face the Chargers in Week 10 on Sunday Night Football, were symbolized by a 'Flint-and-Steel mine.' Two Minecraft avatars, who appeared to be Steelers fans, entered and took two different tracks — one labeled 'contend' and the other 'rebuild.' Both led straight into a pit of lava, but before they met their fate, Mike Tomlin was seen standing in a cave system by two signs that read 'track ends in 9-8' and 'We do not care.' Advertisement Both signs were clearly directed at the Steelers head coach, who the NFL world continues to praise for his inability to coach a losing season despite a poor playoff record — as well as for his infamous 'we do not care' line. This segment was clearly symbolic of Pittsburgh's recent philosophy on whether or not to fully rebuild the team — and the Steelers' refusal to commit led both tracks straight to their doom. Another hilarious dig included an Aaron Rodgers-themed avatar taking the perilous drop. Clearly, the Chargers' social media team — or whoever is in charge of these schedule release videos — deserves a raise. But what's also evident is that Los Angeles will need to beware of the Steelers' wrath when Pittsburgh comes to SoFi in Week 10 of the 2025 season. NFL team deletes video mocking rival star's police detainment
Article content It has become an annual tradition for NFL teams to try to go viral with social media videos announcing their schedules for the coming season. Article content Article content Some teams, like the L.A. Chargers, consistently nail it. Article content Others have had their share of issues, but it's not often that a franchise actually deletes their post. Article content The Indianapolis Colts fell into that unfortunate second category after the team was criticized for mocking Miami Dolphins star receiver Tyreek Hill, who was detained by police on his way to the stadium before a game last year. Article content The clip, which had been downloaded and reposted by other users on X, showed – in a Minecraft animation style (more on that later) — a dolphin swimming before an officer in a Coast Guard boat pulls up behind it. The animated animal, which is wearing a No. 10 Miami jersey and has the name 'Hill' in a block above it, looks back at the boat before dropping its eyes. Article content That's fine, I downloaded the Minecraft schedule release for the Colts 🤷🏾♂️. — CLew 🏈🏀⚾️🥊 (@droppedballspod) May 15, 2025 Article content Article content The clip was a reference to Hill's controversial detainment on Sept. 8, 2024, when the all-pro was pulled him over by police outside of the Dolphins' Hard Rock Stadium before the team's Week 1 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Article content Article content According to the New York Post, police officers forcibly removed Hill from his car — with one putting his hands around Hill's neck — and handcuffed the receiver while he was lying face-down on the ground. Article content Hill received tickets for careless driving and a seatbelt violation which were later dismissed. Article content The team took down the clip after getting heat not just over the insensitive joke, though. The team also got push back from Microsoft, the owner of Minecraft, for 'exceeding (its) rights' to use the popular video game's animated style. Article content 'We removed our schedule release video because it exceeded our rights with Microsoft and included an insensitive clip involving Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill,' the Colts said in a statement Thursday, according to Pro Football Talk. 'We sincerely apologize to Microsoft and Tyreek.'
