Email tips@ More than 80 students walked across the steps of Mission Plaza on Friday night to celebrate their graduation from Mission College Preparatory High School. In total, 83 students celebrated the milestone achievement — and those students received nearly $2 million in scholarship earnings, according to Mission Prep Principal Mike Susank. The ceremony celebrated graduating senior and this year's valedictorian: Mary Marsalek. Marsalek, who is headed to Boston College, also received the Marian award — an accolade typically granted to the female student who best represents Mission Prep's values of scholarship, inspiration and leadership, Susank said. Champ Morrissey was the recipient of the Serra award, the male counterpart to the Marian. Morrissey is headed to the West Point military academy after graduation, Susank said. Meanwhile, Taylor La Follette, who will be attending Loyola Marymount University, was this year's salutatorian. According to Susank, over 95% of this year's graduates are headed to college in the fall. Less than 5% will be taking a gap year or pursuing other paths, like studying abroad, going to trade school or entering the workforce. Over 30 students are headed to four-year universities in California — including 18 who are headed to Cal Poly. Another 17 are on their way to two free years at community college campuses, including Cuesta and Allan Hancock, under California College Promise grants. Eight graduates will compete in collegiate athletes at their chosen campuses. Overall, the Class of 2025 earned an average unweighted GPA of 3.47, with 20% of students earning above a 4.0. In total, the graduates have received over $1.8 million in merit-based scholarships from their respective campuses, according to Susank. 'These awards are self-reported by students and families, so that undoubtedly represents just a partial list, but it is an outstanding class which has exceeded all expectations,' Susank wrote to The Tribune.

Detroit graduate secures 80+ college offers, $1.3M in scholarships

The Brief Harmonie Stewart, Detroit School of Arts graduate, received over 80 college acceptance offers. She says that includes more than $1.3 million in scholarships. For the fall, she's heading off to Alabama A&M. DETROIT (FOX 2) - Many Detroit seniors are graduating with their diplomas in hand, but one graduate is crossing the stage with more than 80 offers from colleges. What they're saying Harmonie Stewart is thrilled to have graduated from Detroit School of Arts and to have received over 80 college acceptance offers. "I didn't expect myself to get into 84. If I was talking to my younger self about it, she would've been like, 'What are you talking about?'" she said. Most of the offers, she says, came with cash, totaling more than $1.3 million in scholarships. "It feels like a big accomplishment. When I first showed everyone my acceptance letters, they were like, 'Yeah, you are who you say you are.' And I'm like, I agree, I am who I say I am," she said. Big picture view DBG manager Dennis Williams Mitchell says Stewart shines academically and in character at DBG, an organization that helps young students and teens succeed in school and life. "Harmonie is phenomenal. She is by far one of the pinnacle students that we have at DBG," he said. Stewart has been there since 6th grade, and Williams-Mitchell says he knew the moment she started applying to schools, she would get in easily. "It started with a friendly competition between one of the alumni who graduated last year," he said. "He got accepted into, I believe, over 50 colleges and received half a million dollars in scholarships." For the fall, she's heading off to Alabama A&M. She can't take all the scholarship money with her, but her hope is that others pick up on her competitive spirit and get accepted to even more colleges. "Yesterday, a student said, 'Oh, I'm so proud of you, and I want to be right where you are today.' I'm like, 'Oh,' and I was just kind of crying about it because I didn't expect to inspire so many people like that," she said. What you can do DBG Detroit says there are 2,000 students on the waiting list. If you'd like to learn more about it, you can tap here.

This initiative is about creating lasting change that enables students to pursue their ambitions without financial constraints and fuels innovation that will redefine the industry. David Knuff, PhD, Chief Strategic Partnerships Officer at EHL Through this initiative, one potential outcome of the endowment fund is to provide full scholarships for 10% of students, covering their entire four-year academic journey. These scholarships will be needs-based, ensuring that the most talented individuals, regardless of financial background, can access EHL's world-class education. It would provide research Cinzia Torriani, a final-year student at EHL and a scholarship recipient, reflects on the profound impact of financial support: Without the foundation's support, I wouldn't be here, or my journey would have been much more challenging. Beyond financial aid, the emotional encouragement from the foundation has been invaluable, shaping both my personal and professional growth. Beyond scholarships, the endowment fund will fuel research that challenges the status quo and drives meaningful change in the hospitality industry, and neighboring industries. By uniting visionary minds, EHL will support projects that enhance industry practices, explore emerging trends, and develop cutting-edge solutions that redefine the guest experience. A Legacy of Philanthropy and Community Engagement EHL's culture of philanthropy dates back to 1942 when alumni came together in the aftermath of World War II to ensure the school's survival. Their generosity laid the foundation for a long-standing tradition of giving back—one that continues to flourish today through the (Em)Power on campaign. The campaign aims to honor 5,000 donors, fostering a strong sense of community and ensuring that every contribution makes a lasting difference. The fund is professionally managed by Lombard Odier, a renowned investment house specializing in responsible asset management, to ensure sustainable and ethical investment practices. EHL invites alumni, industry leaders, and supporters to be part of this transformative journey. By participating in (Em)Power on, donors will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of education, fostering equal opportunities, and propelling the hospitality industry forward.
