The Security Cam I Recommend to Anyone on a Budget Is 50% Off

As a longtime reviewer, I've tested a lot of security cameras over the years and no matter what brand or retailer you're looking at, one thing is always true: If you want a camera with premium features, it's going to cost you. Prices for just a single camera can easily run $200 or even more. When you're trying to put together a system with multiple cameras, the total price tag can get out of hand quickly. But the second-gen Arlo Essential 2K cam manages to buck that trend. Right now, it's marked down to just $50 on Amazon. That's a seriously impressive price for a camera that offers many of the same features of Arlo's highest-end models. If you're in the market for more than one security camera, the two-pack is currently discounted by 53%, slashing $100 off of its normal $190 price tag. Even better, Amazon recently updated pricing for more multipacks, and a three-pack of cameras is 48% off. That gives shoppers a lot of options for getting the setup they need at a big discount. Hey, did you know? CNET Deals texts are free, easy and save you money. What I like about the Arlo security camera While testing the Arlo Essential 2K Cam, I found the indoor-outdoor wireless camera performs well. The 2K resolution helps gather plenty of details, it's highly weather resistant and Arlo's app excels at walkthroughs on how to set up and use the cam. Other common features include two-way audio, color night vision and a built-in siren. Arlo isn't done yet. The cam's integrated spotlight did a great job of lighting up my backyard -- and if you prefer other smart home platforms, it plays well with Alexa and Google Home, as well as IFTTT (no Apple HomeKit support at this time, but it's a possibility). For more, here are CNET's picks for the best home security systems. Arlo wins at customization in the home security conversation I liked a lot of what the Arlo Essential does but it's not too different from what many other security cameras do -- just surprisingly affordable. I really like Arlo's UI and smart home integration too, with an app that's easy to understand and pop open for a quick look at your home when you're out on the town (and that doesn't even require a subscription). It's the deeper customization features that really impressed me. Those who like to tinker with their home security setup will love the beta-version custom detection options that come with higher-tier subscriptions, in addition to facial and vehicle recognition. I haven't seen custom setups like this on any other security camera before. In my tests, I was able to "teach" the cam AI to recognize when a pet toy appeared on camera or when certain objects were no longer present. I could also use this feature to tell me when the garage door opened or if something valuable (say, a piece of artwork) disappeared. Likewise, the vehicle detection options can tell if a specific vehicle is pulling up to your home. I've never seen anything else like this for those who really want to push their home security to the limits. Arlo's Essential cam is a great deal but keep in mind Arlo's subscription options. Arlo Arlo cams for yourself or others With Arlo's easy and informative setup process, the Essential camera is a great choice even if you or your family haven't tried a security camera before. As long as a user is comfortable trying out a new app and following the instructions, Arlo is an excellent experience. I rate the app and user-friendliness around Blink's level, another one of my favorite camera apps. With indoor/outdoor placement, the camera is also versatile so you don't have to worry about people not finding a place to use it. You could also spend a bit more to upgrade the camera with an extended battery and a solar panel, an effective combo if you want to avoid manually charging the battery as much as possible. It still needs a Wi-Fi connection but this combo is great for out-of-the-way spots like above my garage door or a high point on roof eaves. If you're thinking about getting this Arlo Essential camera as a gift, keep in mind Arlo locks quite a few important features behind its $8-plus monthly subscription, including smart alerts with object recognition and cloud video storage. So while the camera is usable without fees, there's a strong incentive to pay. Arlo does offer a free trial of its services but that could feel like a bait-and-switch to gift recipients who aren't expecting a security camera. If you want to give the cam as a gift, you may want to add some PayPal or Venmo cash to cover at least several months of a subscription. If you're on the hunt for other options, check out our full list of the best home security cameras of 2025.

Ring Outdoor Camera Plus Australian review: Now I can finally track my teen

It's probably not what it's designed for, but there's something nice about being able to keep track of your teenager's comings and goings. My youngest son, who is training to be a paramedic, is in and out of the house at all hours. Whether it's off to the gym for a workout, going to university, heading off to work, zipping out for a run, and going out with friends, the teenager is always on the move. Bunkered down in my home office, sometimes I don't know whether he's home or not. And being an early riser, and early to bed, I'm often sound asleep when he's coming home. But since giving Ring's latest Outdoor Camera Plus a whirl, I'm in the loop on his movements all the time with very instant notifications when there is someone coming and going outside our home. Unlike many people, I've never really thought about the need for security cameras. We have two dogs, one of whom is super alert to any visitors not only outside our house but also in our street. But even she misses the odd person. The Ring camera doesn't. It's super quick in notifying you there is someone near the front door. The latest camera has 2K video resolution with good lowlight capabilities which is handy for capturing the teen's return after a night out. 'What time did you get home last night,'' I asked him, already knowing the answer. The Ring app allows you to review all moments from your home with timestamps showing arrivals and people leaving. My son answers honestly, as I would expect. He's a good kid. I then let him know I have a new friend to track his movements. He laughs, knowing that's not unusual when you have a tech-savvy dad who also has a robotic vacuum cleaner which can do patrols of the house to check on the pooches when I'm out. When he travelled overseas with mates for the first time, I made him pack Apple AirTags so I knew exactly where he was. As Ring promotes in its advertisements, there's something nice about just being able to see your kids or pooches, particularly when you are away. The Ring camera is super easy to set up and install. The app shows you different options for securing the camera to either an exterior wall or ceiling with a mounting kit very easy to use, even for someone who has the hardware skills I do (very limited). Mine came with a battery which has to be charged but you can also get plug in and solar versions. We've been using ours for a few weeks and the battery is still at about 80 per cent. You can easily remove the camera from its mount to grab the battery for a recharge. The camera has a wide field of view. According to Mark Fletcher, Ring Managing Director, APAC, the Outdoor Camera Plus combines superior image quality with intelligent features to enhance smart security. Ring's Low-Light Sight technology employs advanced image processing techniques to provide a clear, colourful view even in dimly lit environments. A high-quality lens, premium imaging sensors, dynamic image processing, and high-efficiency compression ensure good clean video. Features such as real-time alerts, Live View, and Two-Way talk are available without a Ring subscription. There's also a siren which is a great way to scare off potential thieves at night without leaving your bed. Ring Home Basic provides smart alerts for people, packages, and vehicles, as well as access to up to 180 days of event video history. Ring Home Premium includes 24/7 Recording, available with plug-in and hardwired power sources. How much does a Ring subscription cost in Australia? In Australia, Ring Home subscription plans offer three tiers: Basic (A$4.95/month or A$49.95/year), Standard (A$14.95/month or A$149.95/year), and Premium (A$29.95/month or A$299.95/year). The Basic plan covers one device, while Standard and Premium cover all devices at your home The Outdoor Camera Plus can also connect to compatible Alexa-enabled devices for Live View streaming and Two-Way Talk. The Outdoor Camera Plus is available in black and white, designed for both indoor and outdoor use, and features a weather-resistant build. Ring, which is an Amazon company, says its products incorporate important privacy and security, features such as two-step verification, video end-to-end encryption, customisable privacy settings, and privacy zones. The camera also features a blue indicator light when recording. The Outdoor Camera Plus is available for or $179 AUD on and select retailers in Australia and New Zealand, including We also checked out the Ring Doorbell, which retails for about $147. The Battery Video Doorbell alerts you whenever someone presses the doorbell or motion is detected on your property. A 'Head-To-Toe View' lets you see more of people and packages left at your doorstep. The 'Quick Replies' feature lets you choose from prerecorded messages that play when someone presses the doorbell, acting like an answering machine for your front door. Ring Doorbell key features HD Video: 1440 x 1440 resolution for clear images. Head-To-Toe View: See more of your doorstep. Colour Night Vision: See clearly even in the dark. Privacy Zones: Block out areas you don't want to record. Quick Replies: Answering machine for your front door.

Ring Outdoor Cam Plus discounted for the first time!

If you're looking to keep an eye on your home, the Ring Outdoor Cam Plus is one of the latest and greatest smart security cameras around. It actually just launched last March 2025, so we're pleased to see it discounted for the first time, and the deal is pretty nice. You can currently get the Ring Outdoor Cam Plus for $69.99, which equates to a 30% discount! Buy the Ring Outdoor Cam Plus for just $69.99 ($30 off) This offer is available directly from Amazon, which is Ring's parent company. It is labeled as a 'limited time deal.' It's the first time this model is discounted, making this a record-low price. You can pick between Black and White, as well as Battery or Plug-in. Ring Outdoor Cam Plus Ring Outdoor Cam Plus See price at Amazon Save $30.00 Limited Time Deal! The Ring Outdoor Cam Plus is the brand's current portfolio's best standard battery camera. This means you won't find any better unless you move up to the options with built-in lights. These would be the Spotlight and Floodlight series. It's a very capable little security camera, so you're getting quite a nice deal here. For starters, it features a 2K video recording resolution, while most others stick to 1,080p. You'll get the works in terms of features, too. These include Low Light Sight, motion detection, live view, two-way audio, a siren, Alexa support, both 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi support, and more. Furthermore, it is weatherproof, so you won't have to worry about rain or snow damaging it. It also supports pre-roll video, but that requires a wired power input; battery users are left out of this one! I like to avoid wiring, especially for outdoor cameras. If you're like me, you'd be glad to know battery life should last several months per charge, so you won't have to worry about charging the camera all the time. Your mileage may vary depending on the settings, though. Regardless, it is usually not an issue. One thing to keep in mind is that many of these features require a Ring Home Plan subscription. Without a plan, your experience will be pretty limited. Plans start at $4.99 per month. You can learn more about Ring Home Plan subscriptions here. Extra deal: The Ring Outdoor Cam is also on sale Ring Stick Up Cam Battery Ring Stick Up Cam Battery See price at Amazon Save $20.00 Limited Time Deal! If you really want to save more, the Ring Outdoor Cam is also on sale. It's the same as the Ring Stick Up Cam, but it was renamed for some reason. You can get it for $59.99. That said, I'll be straight and tell you upgrading to the Ring Outdoor Cam Plus is a no-brainer for only $10 more. I wouldn't get the Ring Outdoor Cam just to save $10 bucks, and I am super frugal. All that said, the Ring Outdoor Cam is pretty decent. The main difference is that the resolution gets reduced to 1,080p, but some of you might not mind that. It also has no pre-roll video support or a siren. You'll be limited to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, too. Similarly, you'll need a Ring Home Plan subscription to get most features. Make sure to act quickly. It is the first time the Ring Outdoor Cam Plus goes on sale, so we're not sure how long the offer will last or when it will return.
