World's biggest nightclub is a 'sensory universe' unto itself on Spanish island

The world's biggest nightclub - where every floor will reveal its own 'sensory universe' - is set to open on the Spanish island of Ibiza this summer. Covering 70,000 sq ft, the sprawling venue will also feature a 'micro-club' washroom and a DJ booth surrounded by 'sound-reactive lighting.' Branded UNVRS - pronounced 'universe' - it promises 'a moment of stillness beneath the stars' for partygoers to the hedonistic destination in the Balearic Islands. Bliss: The nightclub's dome is the centerpiece and is visible from the main road outside, while the terrace will 'offer panoramic views of Ibiza Town - a moment of stillness beneath the stars' From the outside, UNVRS embraces the timeless esthetic of a traditional Ibizan finca, with whitewashed walls, natural stone textures, and earthy materials, all intentionally chosen to root the venue in the island's architectural soul. 'But once inside, the space reveals itself as something else entirely,' says a spokesperson from UNVRS. They add: 'The venue blends indoor and outdoor zones seamlessly, encouraging movement across terraces, mirrored corridors and layered floors, each revealing its own sensory universe. 'Every room is distinct - with architectural references drawn from brutalism, retro-futurism, and contemporary art deco. 'Every surface, material, and line has been meticulously crafted - not just to look extraordinary, but to immerse every guest in something they've never experienced before. 'Every detail has been meticulously considered, from the concrete and the steel to the furniture and plant life.' The nightclub's dome is the centerpiece in the pictures - and is visible from the main road outside. The terrace will 'offer panoramic views of Ibiza Town - a moment of stillness beneath the stars' for the partygoers. UNVRS has been 'purpose-built to support large-scale production rigs' so the venue can transform night after night. The spokesperson adds: 'The venue's modular architecture will host large-scale scenic shifts and mind-blowing productions - developed in collaboration with world-renowned show creators High Scream - rivaling some of the world's most iconic stages, ensuring every performance is taken to the next level.' UNVRS will also have a VIP area outside, and a casual dining area, as well as a toilet that doubles up as a mini-club, known as The Wild Comet - and 'one of the most unforgettable rooms in the venue.' A spokesperson says: 'A DJ booth sits at the center of the space, surrounded by sound-reactive lighting and walls treated with the same acoustic attention to detail as the main room.' The UNVRS premises was home to Privilege in the 1970s, the world's largest club at the time, before it transformed into Ku Club in the 1980s, known for its hedonistic open-air parties that welcomed Grace Jones (a frequent guest), Duran Duran and Spandau Ballet to the stage. Pre-transformation the club offered a huge central arena with a swimming pool and 82ft ceilings, plus several additional open-air rooms offering a club experience far beyond the norm. To tease its opening, UNVRS enlisted the help of Hollywood actor Will Smith. He featured in a social media campaign where the Men in Black star claimed to have witnessed a UFO sighting and felt 'obliged to investigate,' appearing on the club's rooftop above its distinctive dome with club owner Yann Pissenem. Known for managing the iconic venues Ushuaia and HI Ibiza, Pissenem, chief executive of The Night League - the group behind the renovation of UNVRS - told Billboard: 'Hyperclub is the next evolution in global nightlife. 'Imagine seeing your favorite artists in a space that offers the best elements of a club, the infrastructure of an arena, and the best hospitality in the world.' UNVRS opens on May 30 and will host some of the biggest names in dance music across the summer, including David Guetta, Carl Cox and Eric Prydz.
