Walkathon in Arkadelphia raises over $50,000 for cancer society

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Soldiers Of Service is an organization of Marine Corp Veterans that pride themselves on doing work in and for people in the community. Sunday afternoon they gathered the people of Arkadelphia for a good purpose. Jason McCready, the organizer of the event and director of the organization says he let his faith lead him when thinking of this event with servanthood in mind. 'We're raising money for American Cancer Society, after this event we've already surpassed $50,000,' McCready said. Millions more adults should be screened for lung cancer under new American Cancer Society guidelines He says during their walkathon people were also able to donate blood, but he wanted this event to be different. 'I put a whole new spin on it, I shortened it down and Jesus calls us to serve, and we want to celebrate all acts of service,' McCready said. He says he's overwhelmed by how much support the walkathon received, and he was even able to ensure that Chambliss, a man that attended the event and donated, was able to leave event with more than he came with, his faith in God. 'I'm emotional if I can be saved anybody can be saved,' Chambliss said. Arkadelphia man battling rare cancer; community helping out Chambliss was baptized and says experiences like his will be the reason that more people attend.
